concidering some of the dealers out there Bubba, he may have just ended up paying $1000 for the race kit. He probably paid $15K out the door for him to think he could ask $10,5K as a starting bid.

the race kit is 620.00 plus tax..how many hours labor does the dealer charge ?
is the Labor hourly rate set by HD or does each shop have it's own hourly price? just curious !

Each shop sets its own rate, thats what I've recently found when calling around for prices on a TPS reset.

what i find funny is check out the massive ding he did to the idler pulley when he installed the race can. even in the small pic you can see he had "issues".....maybe he should have paid $1000 and had a dealer install it.

Just a note to let you know somebody snookered you. . .

I've ridden many Buells over the last 20 years and wanted to drop you a note to make you aware of some mistatements in your ad.

The Buell is NOT rare and can be bought in hundreds of dealerships, usually at subtantial discounts.

The Buell Race Kit can NOT be installed yourself. If you did, you have permently trashed the ECM which requires a TPS reset, done only by a dealer, with race kit installation.

In addition, you have voided your warranty.

Next time you buy a bike, I'd suggest you ask more questions.

I wonder if he got the TPS reset after installing the $1000 race kit himself?

LOL

Maybe I read it the wrong way but I don't think he said it's a rare bike.
Quoted from his auction...

"The bike has the remainder of it's 2 year warranty left, and this is your opportunity to save some money on a hard to find, rarely discounted Buell".
Now the race kit at a grand is slightly exaggerated.
And honest, excellent Buell Dealers (DaveS and Bubba)are harder to find than the bike.
But I thought 10,5 for a 04 with 400 miles on it and a race kit was a fair deal.
Whats a 12R going for these days?

Thanks for your opinion, I am a certified Harley Davidson mechanic. The 04 Buells will map themselves after 30 minutes running time, the dealer said if it didn't they would do it but it ran great after 30 minutes. As I'm sure you are aware Buell made substantial changes to the 04 Model concerning the electronic fuel system, it will continually adjust for changes in altitude, ect.The 04's are just quite a bit better than the previous models. As for as the availability it depends on where you live and supply and demand dictate the price you will pay as with anything else. I have a good relationship with several dealers and they have no warranty issues, I can probably help you out if you own one and have any warranty issues with your dealer. Just give me a call you have the number.

Good luck,

John

Actually, having been familiar with the Buell factory team that developed the ECM with Phillips and having spent (as in 2500 miles on one ride) and making a couple 973 mile each way trips back and forth from East Troy to New York City trying to find the "real" limits of the ECM's ability to respond and recover from "new" conditions, I've got a pretty fair understanding of the system.

Good to hear your dealer does as well.

Ask your deal if they will submit a warranty claim to their S.P.O.C. rep for a bike that has been adjusted by a customer without the proper HD equipment? I'd like to know the answer to that one.

Enjoy,
Court

Court,
I'm not sure about the submitting on the warranty thing because I have never had a problem. I was a service manager for Stubbs cycles for 10 years in Houston 1985-1995. I know how the warranty system works for HD and never had a problem. So form a dealer standpoint (hands on) Warranty issues were never a problem.

John:

Let me help you out. Read the Texas Codifed Criminal Law. That's the part that sends you to jail.

Then read your dealer contract, that's the part that put one of Harley-Davidson's oldest (in fact they say they are THE oldest) dealers on probation and standing before his peers, as a condition of his hard fought legal battle to keep his dealership, at the annual dealer meeting giving a mea culpa on warranty fraud.

I totally dig folks who abuse Buells. I dislike people who lie, mislead and attempt to defraud Buell.

Starting bid is now set at $9K. That is a good deal for a new XB12R with a race kit. He's willing to deliver to Houston. I'm sure I could get him to drop it of in Kilgore. I'd be happy to keep it for anyone while they make arrangements to pick it up. : ]
