I just put a new front tire on and after putting my front wheel back on, my front caliper has been acting differently. prior to the take off, I could pull my brake lever in a little bit before it really engaged. Now its very touchy and I hardly have to touch the lever to get it to grab. After taking my bike down off the lift, to compress the suspension before tightening the axel to spec, when I grabbed my front brake it did nothing until I pumped it twice. It hasn't done the ever since. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on why this might be happening???? I stuck a small file in between the pads to make sure they didn't close. My bike still stops well, but it different than it was before, and I definitely do not want anything going wrong with my front brake while riding. The pads seem like they might be dragging a bit more than what they did before, its hard to say. Thank you in advance. I really need some guidance here. Whenever you take the caliper of the brake rotor you'll have to pump the brakes back up. That much is normal. The stock brake pads are prone to brake dust. Once you took them off it lets in some brake dust causing the "grabbiness". Each time I change pads (Lindal Gold or EBC HH are recommended by myself, stock pads suck) I always clean the calipers with brake cleaner. You'll be amazed at how much crap lives in there. Also I bleed the brake system regularly. Hope this helps! |

It is normal, don't worry . When you change the front tire you push the caliper piston back in , and you have to pump them back out. This "resets' the front brakes. The brake lever will be out further than before like you installed new brake pads. The sensitive "feeling" won't last long. I actually push the caliper piston back in with a screwdriver from time to time to keep the sensitive feeling to the front brakes. |

Awesome! Thank you guys. I was just making sure there was no way I let one of the caliper pistons to become dislodged or something. So even the pads dragging a little more now is completely normal? (Message edited by oxygen151 on June 05, 2009) |

You probably had an air bubble in there, and moving things around let it up and out the master cylinder... So its good, the brakes are now as responsive as they were designed to be. The pads push on the pistons, and the drag is what moves them back... there is no other retraction mechanism. So they should be binding or hot, just lightly dragging. |
