Even though I have a dedicated race bike that I expect to damage, I hate when it actually happens. I've gone through this a few times now over the past few seasons so this time I figured I'd document the rebuilding effort.

I attended the CCS/ASRA event last weekend at Summit Point, WV. Practice Sunday morning was pretty routine and I was feeling good. CCS Am Thunderbike was my first race and I ran well coming in 2nd and then officially being bumped to 3rd because of some type of scoring error. Still not quite sure what the deal there is.

My second race of the day is GTL. I've never done very well in the longer races so I figured I'd try a new strategy. Hang back for the first 20 minutes of the race and then go hard for the last 5 minutes if every thing seemed good. I paced myself for the first ten laps and then started running hard. I couldn't believe I wasn't really tired at all. Usually by this point in a GT race I'd be preying for the checkered flag. I turned 3 of my fastest laps ever right in a row and found myself in 2nd place closing in on the leader quickly.

With a lap and a half to go, I find myself entering the more technical part of Summit called the carousel (sp?) Then...WTF?! I'm on the ground? Did I just high side?

I did. Unfortunately it was with the help of the 3rd place rider you got a little to eager and firmly planted his front tire into my swingarm. Took us both out.

Fortunately, we were both OK. Still have lots of black and blues though and a messed up bike. He was lucky enough to have a back up bike for the next day. I didn't. Thank you very, very much goes out to Jeff Goode, a fellow Buell amateur who let me put my numbers on his bike and run my 2 races on Monday. I wasn't quite as quick, but still came away with another 3rd place finish.

So here is where my rebuilding story begins.

Thanks Damnut. Fortunately the guys at Johnson Engine Technology had an extra race only frame on hand, so I picked it up from them. Just waiting for it to arrive.
