OK, my right inner thigh is absolutely "well done". Will wrapping the headers help? What about removing the plastic shield between the motor and the frame? I am used to water cooled machines. I love the bike, but good grief the heat rolling off the engine is crazy. suggestions??? |

Get some Thermotec adhesive backed heat barrier; apply to the inside and bottom of the frame (especially around the rear cylinder head), bottom of the seat, and any place else that's giving you problems. Wrapping the headers will help, or have them Jethot coated. The Thermotec is available from American Sport Bike, Summit Racing, or some NAPA stores. American Sport Bike sells pre-coated headers on an exchange basis if you don't want to wait to have yours done. |

you can bypass the fan to turn on when you want it to, use the search function I know there are some threads. you can also coat the headders in ceramics, or wrap it. or get some heat shields from one of our sponsors |

Schwab, If it is like my Uly, look at the lower front edge of the seat. Can you see the header through there. After I closed up that gap with tape and cloth the intense burning went away. It had been putting that air right on my leg. There is another warmth on the inside of my right calf. I think it is radiant heat from the straight part of the rear header. I'm going to try and make a real simple shield for that. I am attacking the heat in order of most intense. |

I took a chunk of the heat shield off my old Road King and stuck it on my Uly. That, and the stock seat heat shields work pretty well. Ice also works pretty well. If that doesn't work, just throw it in the snow.

Snow is great, it makes my fan not turn on much.

Does the XB12scg have heat issues? |

No XB models have heat issues. The issues 99% of the time is the rider. I have to try to feel the heat off the header. Driven over 40k miles between two XB's, and gotten over 1000 miles on demo bikes, borrowed bikes, and even occasionally swapping with someone else. It all comes down to rider ergonomics and gear. Being in Florida will make it easier to feel the heat than in NY, but still the whole thing is blown out of proportion. If the heat was a major issue and everyone was complaining, it would of been addressed by the factory. But they made things a little better on the cooler running 2008+ models. The elves are too busy working on things like wheel bearings, melting headlights, and snapping belts. |

One other thought- some have had good results tweaking the fuel mixture with ECMspy. It can make the engine run noticeably cooler. |

Special ops makes a heat shield that you put under your seat. They are a sponsor on here. Many swear by it. |

Ill be happy to chime in here and back up the heat issue. This is the second Buell ive owned (06 XB12R) and i ride it very aggressively. The frame on the right side is quite hot, but only a problem at stops when you put your right leg down. But i really dont like the heat build up on my right foot.... my right heal just cooks, and its hard for me to find a comfy spot to keep it cool. This is almost exactly like my old old GSXR1100. I dont like it, and will wrap the headers soon for an attempt at curing this issue. |

I have more problems with the heat on my 08 when I'm outside of its happy zone. Cruising in town heats these bikes up, get out and open it up. Also it is way worse wearing jeans vs my leather. |

I live in South Texas near the border and near the Gulf of Mexico. I am very close to buying an XB12scg. I currently have a Blast its more fun then a barrel of monkeys (didnt want to say "it's a blast") but I am ready to step up the power and add more smiles per gallon. Yes it's hot out but as long as I'm moving the heat I can deal with. Always wear riding gear including full face, jacket and gloves. Still looking for some pants but since bike is mostly daily driver havent gotten as far as riding pants. |

Another idea- the 1125R guys have been adding Tech Spec "Grip Skins" to the outside of their frames. Evidently they also work to insulate the frames from your legs. Linky: http://www.techspec-usa.com/products/gs_buell.html |

I have odie's shields, also the select seat works really well to keep your bum cool... I don't even use the shield with select any more... I run oil about half quart over especially in summer I think it helps I've heard of guys running it the bottom of the threads... its a dry sump its going to pull only what it needs a little extra IMHO isn't going to hurt My fan has only come once this year while running... I've used a pressure washer carefully to blast crap out of the oil cooler Good luck |

I put a heat shield on the header and wrapped the pipe just under the shield. Seems effective. |

And I use both of Odie's heat shields. Seat and engine. |

I just went and bought some tin from ace hardware, cut it down to like 4x6 curved it to flow w/ the tank then lips into the inner frame about an inch and mounted it w/ the tank cover bolt. Probably doesnt make sense but it works really well by just flowing the heat out behind my leg vs righ on the inside of the leg. I might take a pic. |

I bought a 50 foot roll of black header wrap from the auto store (40.00) along with my right side scoop it is much more comfortable.Of course I Knew a H/d motor puts off heat so I have no complaints. |

My frame gets real hot on my inner thigh. No problems with my feet though. I was gonna try wrapping headers (sounds like a big pain, and then no reason to polish them) or add a heat shield there. |
