Just looked over my bike and noticed my clutch cable hitting my front header. It melted the plastic to the metal sheath. The little wire holder mounted to the front of the cylinder that holds the cable away from the header was broken. anyone had this? i dont see it being much of a problem due to the clutch cable being a metal wire and a metal cover.

You have an 08, that clutch cable wireform is a recall. Bring it in and they'll replace a fix free of charge.

Has the retainer changed over the years because this is what's holding mine?

Zatco, look above the retaining ring in your pic and you will find what they are talking about. If you have a coathanger looking thing wrapped around your cable then it's the old version. The new version is tube-like and a much better design.

On what year bikes is this a recall?

What I show in the pics is the only thing holding it. I've seen the wire holder in pics but it's not on my bike. Wonder where these things came from???

hmmm, I dunno. I'm probably not the guy to answer. I've only been a Buelly for a month and a half. My 07 Uly had the wire version so I bought the upgraded part from American Sportbike.

Yes, several times. I can tell your bike is an 03 based on your retainer. They switched it I believe for 04, and they changed it several times over the years to various thickness of what I called bent paper clips. Starting on March 2008 built bikes they switched to a totally new bracket that looks like a mini crowbar. The current part number is N0012.1AAA, and its $12ish. Here is a picture of the new retainer:

None. It is a service bulletin for some 2008 bikes. You should of gotten a letter in the mail from Buell if you qualify. I know dealers can look up your VIN and see if you need recalls, not sure about service bulletins.

Does part bolt-on as an upgrade to earlier XB's (like an '04 XB-R)?

I still run the paperclip, I was waiting for my cable to snap so I would have an excuse to switch it. It snapped last night after a year of having the damn new retainer in my hands. Gonna swap them once I pick up a new cable.
