Sorry, I moved the post here:

XB owners might want to take a look at their throttle butterfly shaft and make sure that those button heads aren't coming loose. A drop of green Loctite would have worked wonders...

Yeah, I can post photos once it's off of my pick up truck, big hunka junk. Bike, not the truck!
Looks like it's S1 time for a bit.

I had one custom made with a slot. Problem solved.

Who did the work and how many miles are on the shaft?
I know that anything is possible with machinery and it's been a good bike but this one kind of ticks me off.

Sorry to hear it OM.

Yours is the first non-06 Uly butterfly shaft failure I've heard of.

Not OM, mine, I'm afraid.
I gather mine is not the first 06 Uly to have this happen to? If that's the case, then they must have updated the part.

Well that makes sense then. I have never seen a butterfly valve break on anything but 06 Ulys.

I believe they got a bad batch or the TB that particular year were weak in that area.

It wouldn't be as big of an issue if they sold the replacement valve separately. The real rub is in having to buy the ENTIRE TB assembly to get it.

I've seen other bikes besides Uly's break that shaft.

$489 for one, too. Maybe Buell will take pity on my downtrodden butt or the selling dealer will be willing to burn up some COOP money.
Failing that, I guess I'll have a new shaft machined for me.
A part like that should last the lifetime of several bikes, you'd think.

Same thing happened to my 06 bolt. Luckily it was still under warranty at the time. Had about 14k miles on it.

Hiya, Court.
I contacted my selling dealership (only bought 3 Buells from them when I worked there) and they won't ask for a Goodwill on it. Guess they don't love me no more or something.
I'll contact customer service while it's still on the truck. Maybe Baltimore Buell will be more receptive. If so, that's where I'll switch my allegiance to.

I was looking for those pics, thanks Court!

My NEW shaft has been in for 4k miles and had no trouble.

It was a prototype part made for me, I tried to get him to make about 20 but he showed little interest.

You can find a used TB on ebay pretty cheap.

My selling dealership may not have been willing to help me but I would like to give a big thank you in advance to Baltimore, MD Buell and the folks at H-D/Buell Customer Service.
From now on my business goes to Baltimore and that's where I'll buy my next Buell as well.
