Im having to replace my primary case cover due to its $hitty design (the lip/flange broke off the clutch housing). Looks like $220 plus shipping if I by from the U.S and $750 if I buy it from the local Buell dealer here (Hows that for mark up?). So I was thinking of getting the newer lighter clutch spring from the +06 models to add to my 05 XB12R. Thought it might help prevent the new case breaking too and at least Ill get something out of this whole mess. Does anyone know if this is possible? Is it an easy job? Are there any other parts Ill need other than the case, gasket and clutch spring? |

I'm pretty sure that $750 quote was for installation too. You might have to tell them you want to do it yourself. - - If it really is that much in japan oh my lol... (Message edited by Trill on May 26, 2009) |

Nah $750 is for the part, as listed in the Japan Buell parts catalogue. I had the belt break the other day, $450 for a new one here, $179 in the U.S. Even my friendly Buell mechanic understands when i tell him I want to order from the U.S. My plan is to buy +06 primary case, (Buell mechanic tells me they were revised and have different rib pattern on the inside, a +06 clutch spring, and a +06 clutch cable along with the gaskets and shift lever seal. It should all work out cheaper than just the price of the primary case here. |

you're gonna have to do some engineering with the primary cover.. they have made a alteration to the design where the shifting shaft diameter is larger than the 05's. so there is going to be a gap, so your're going to have to find a way to seal that gap. unless if you can find a 05 primary, which is very unlikely, im guessing that most of the primary cases have superceded to the new design. water/condensation will get into there unless you can make a good tight seal. clutch spring, im sure the swap will work you'll need: a chain inspection cover gasket, clutch inspection cover gasket, primary seal gasket, some spacers and o-rings to re-fit the seal at the shifter shaft. if your going to replace the clutch spring your need a clutch diaphram compression tool |

really??? I just ordered all the parts. Do you think i need to order a +06 Gear shift shaft too? Is there a definitive place we can go to check these part numbers and their compatibility? |
