I recently picked up a used 03 firebolt xb9r The day after i got it. Had to replace an oil line.. a week after that.. the fork seals and all fluids. just recently it's starting acting horribly. 3,000 - 4,000 RPMs is a huge nasty flat spot it doesnt matter what gear the bike is in it will still bog. The bike has a race ECM and some sort of after market pipe..and a K&N.. the previous owner didnt take care of it at all and Im desperately trying to figure out this issue.. I checked the grounds.. theyre fine.. I replaced the plugs and wires today.. but it did not fix the problem , Im very new to buell and i suspect a TPS reset. But there are No harley dealers for 100 miles who will touch my firebolt. I don't have the ecmspy.. can anyone help I live near olympia Wa. | ||

Ha.. the muffler happends to be a Buell race muffler, I didnt know untill just now. | ||

I dont know exactly how the bike is running but I have a 03 XB9R that I bought new. When it was new mine didnt run that great at certain RPM's. The single best thing I did that changed the bike and wouldnt trade anything for it is a guy from Buell dealer in Georgia told me to go buy the top of a air filter box for a XB12 and it was unreal. I had to ride the bike for about a week to let the fuel system reprogram itself but it was a unbelieveable bike after that. There wasnt any missing or sputtering after that. Just smooth running and power. I dont know how much it increased the horsepower but it was a big difference. I like ridding it and the power more that my dads 12. | ||

Buy a cable and download ECM spy for free and you can tps reset all day long from your laptop or desktop if you put it in the garage. Check this site: Xoptiinside.com | ||

I have the same problem.... only I've also replaced my intake seals. I noticed that my O2 sensor wire is a little rubbed through. So I'm going to replace that and I've got an ECM Spy cable coming so I'll be resetting the TPS/AFV as well. My stumble/bog went away then came back and got worse every time I "fixed" something. That tells me I need to do some ECM spy magic. | ||

Okay so im kind of dumb when it comes to all this download things.. I havebt lived here very long i came from russia. so im still trying to make sense of everything... I know I have to have the cable.. Which I do not. and I know I have to down load things.. But i read about conversions..chips..and yeah it sounds to me like i cannot do this.. Also.. I have vista on my computer.. does it even work? I guess I just need to know.. or is there a step by step for dummies? I mean.. If anyone lives in the portland seattle area.. Ill pay them to do the reset?... or if they can even maybe help me out with directions. | ||

The Cable is just a cable that hooks up to a laptop on one end, then to your Buell XB9R's computer. The Computer hook up to your XB9R is located (if you are sitting on the bike) on the left side and to the front behind the fairing where the black colored plastic boxes are. It looks like an electrical socket with a rubber cover on it. When you get the cable, go online and download the program on your laptop. The cable's owner's manual or American Sportbike website has the web address to download the ECM Spy. ECM Spy is the name of the program that will allow your computer to communicate with the bike's computer, the cable is the connection between the laptop and bike. All you have to do now is follow the instructions that came with your cable on how to use the ECM Spy. Reseting your Throttle Position Sensor is very easy. Once you have the bike and laptop hooked up, but with the engine off, you MUST first physically zero your throttle by first loosening the idle adjustment screw two full revolutions, then roll your twist grip throttle wide open then release it to allow the throttle's spring to return it to zero. Do this twice to ensure the throttle is fully closed (ie. at zero setting). Now you tell your computer it is "zero". You also need to set idle speed to around 1,050-1,150 RPM. Do this by starting the bike and turning the idle adjustment screw so that idle is set. The read out from your laptop will have a tachometer hooked up to your bike's computer so you just have to set the idle to the correct speed using that read out. Now you are "set" so to speak. LOL! You will most likely need to download drivers for the ecmspy cable. The drivers allow ecmspy to "think" that the usb port you're using is actually a com port (ecmspy will only work what it sees as a com port) There are 2 drivers IIRC, or 2 files for the same driver.. something like that. http://www.ecmspy.com/ has much better instructions and links to all the downloads you could possibly need.
