I have a couple questions. 1.There's a newer revised version of the xb regulator, the first being Y0302-02A8 and the new one is Y1302-02A8. Why was the part changed. 2.Does this regulator require a good contact ground at the mounting point on the frame.Or does one of the wires take care of grounding. 3.Is the any definitive way to test it and make sure it is bad. My condition, bike does not charge. Ran load test on regulator will running the bike got up to 18-19 volts supposed to have 15 volt according to manual at 3000 rpm. Check continuity on stator, stators not grounded according to tests. |

It certainly sounds bad if the voltage is going so high and the stator tests OK. The new part number regulator for the earlier XB's has a different type of '77' connector. I have included a picture of the regulator and the replacement connector as a supplement to my '77' connector guide. http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=d4rbxwr_20dq5khf&hl= en I haven't had the regulator off myself but the circuit diagram for the Ulysses doesn't indicate a ground connection via the body. |

The older ones definitely needed a chassis ground, I'd have to see a schematic for the newer ones, but its hard for me to imagine they wouldn't. |
