Garmin quest with about $15 worth of RAM mount parts, and a hacked up charging cradle and 5v adapter. The Quests are good units, though the internal antenna will fail sooner or later... $15 for an external antenna that works much better anyway. | ||

I have the Quest 2 and it's mounted up with RAM mount parts too. That thing has been through a lot and has never failed me once. | ||

Zumo 550 with included RAM mount Easy to see, easy to hear through my Cardo Scala Rider. I have my cell phone hooked through it so I can call my peeps if I need to. | ||

I use a Streetpilot 2820 but which ever unit you choose make sure it does not have hard drive, they will fail. The 2820 has very similar features to the zumo550 but was 300 for the new gps, ram mounts and hardwire kit. Bought it all off of ebay but amazon.com is great Captjim & Cruisin in the following link use a gps from the same family and Cruisin uses the same mount. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/406 2/130572.html?1123104144 I feel now that with all the features I could not have made a better choice. | ||

Zumo is actually certified for fully SUBMERGED (to 5 feet) - so you don't have to worry about rain. It's also usable either with touch screen with gloved hands or the side buttons. Touch screen or buttons are designed to be used with a gloved LEFT hand so you can keep on the throttle. If you're not concerned about audio/cell/bluetooth, get the Zumo 450. They can be bought cheap when you buy new/old stock. Less than $400 some places including the Ram mounts. | ||

I went w/the Garmin Zumo 450 from an E-Bay supplier. Used the included Ram mount. As a technodork, didn't feel the need for the extra features of the 550. Having enjoyed wrong turn adventures, I use it mostly as a map back-up. The real plus for me is gas stop/cash machine/restaurant info. And whatever you get, play with it in town/local trips to get used to it. Blind faith in its directions can leave you in some weird places. And shortest route can leave you in some subdivision/cow paths/ect compared to quickest route. | ||

I have a Garmin Nuvi 750? that I've attached much like xb12mike via dashboard suction cup. The only difference is I have it over the speedo vs. the tach. I added a cigarette lighter adapter to the bike  so that I could run the GPS off the bike. This way it charges and never runs out of juice while I'm moving. In addition to this, I rigged an additional safety clip to the back of the GPS unit in the event that the suction cup fails and it tries to fall to it's death. In the last 9 months Ive had it mounted, the suction cup has only lost it's seal once and that's only because I tried to secure it when it was dirty. It hasnt fallen since. | ||

I just got my Garmin Nuvi 500 this weekend. Waterproof to the same standard as the Zumo motorcycle specific ones. It does not come with a motorcycle mount though. Played with it some this weekend with the suction cup mount stuck to the air box cover. I plan to make a permanent mount that will bolt on where the stock mirror was (I've gone to bar end mirrors). I got the Nuvi brand new for $245 with free shipping. I couldn't justify spending much more than that for my purposes and budget. I'll give a work out this summer when the wife and I spend about 2 weeks on the road with no set in stone plans.  | ||

Tom-Tom one.....not so great. Cannot program back road adventures. It always seeks the nearest main highway or Interstate. I just stick it on with its suction cup and a bit of masking tape. I don't want it to think it is part of the bike(it was a gift,piece of near uselessness it is). Works great if you are cruising the super slab. Spend a couple bucks get a good one. | ||

I agree with etenuly. I have the TomTom one. The plus it's very cheap and will tell you where to go. Others do much more but you have to pay more. I saw mine on sale for $100 the other day. The better ones are way more expensive, but I think it would be worth it just to program your own route. + I don't know how long mine will last with the vibration from the vtwin | ||

Tom-Tom one.....not so great. Cannot program back road adventures. Surprised at that. The Nuvi 500 I just got does that great. I can avoid Toll Roads, and High Ways. I can also choose fastest or shortest route. Shortest seems to get a good route that goes pretty much where I want. Add a couple of way points to get it exactly where I want the route and it does a great job. Now I just need to figure out how to reverse the route! The 2 biggest faults I see at this point is that you can only save 10 routes, and it does not support Blue Tooth. Blue Tooth I can live without no problem. I think when I get a data cable (ordered on EBay for another $3.89) I should be able to save routes on my PC and shuffle them back and forth as needed. | ||

I've got a Zumo 550. It's great. I mounted it with a Touratech mount with additional mounting goodies, I though the RAM mount was a little to cheezy. |
