What do you guys do about bugs while riding? Not bike gremlins, the flying kind. Specifically, how do you clean or keep your shield clean while riding?

While riding?

I can't!

At gas stops I use the window cleaning squeegee while still wearing my helmet. Quick dry with a towel then back to killing bugs.

Seriously,
I keep a small spray bottle that I fill with alcohol and a few drops of dish detergent.
I keep a rag and some paper towels in my tank bag.

3M respirator wipes are the best that I've tried.

I just bought a new product tonight called Big Wipe (Glass). Haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

Hopefully, it works well for setting out from home and then I'll use the 3M wipes on the road. The first is a wet wipe type dispenser, the 3M is in its own package.

Plexus on the shield leaves a thin wax coating that USUALLY makes it easier to wipe the bugs off afterwards.

Keep your faceshield closed!

I usually wait until the end of the day if possible. Take the shield off the helmet and let it soak in worm water to soften the bug's. Then will wash it with hand soap or dish washing detergent by hand, rinse and dry with a soft towel or paper towel. have never scratched a shield by this method.

When I am out someplace overnight, I let the bike set out in the dew, and set the helmet on the seat(if secure), then they come off very easily in the morning without scratching.

I need something preferably to use while riding but will stop to use if I have to. My glove works good enough on little non-sticky ones but for the rest....eeeewwwww.

i tend to not tuck under the windscreen because the bugs deflect off of it and come to a hault right in my face.... cant really fight it, just let it be

the only real option you have while your riding is getting those tear-away's.

DOOD.......... STOP STARING AT THE BUGS!!! Just kidding. I use baby wipes! They work great, and streak free (no running naked). Its june bug time. Had to pry a dead one out of my chin vent last night! Used a toothpick. Glad I was wearing the helmet. Could'nt see taking a june bug at 55mph in the kisser.

I need to try that plexus stuff for the shield.

I use car wax on my front fairing mainly because of the bugs. It makes it easier to wipe the guts off. A few days of riding in the summer makes that fairing look nasty.

Found out last week, leave the bugs while riding, the smear is usually worse than the original splat.

My windshield gets 90% of them, the rest come off in the rain.

I try and do that archangel but the other night they were swarming real bad. Sounded like rain drops hitting my helmet!
Jamiec - does the Plexus dry clear? When you wipe the bugs off, do you use water? If so does the wax get all gooey?

nice one fast. I hit a large Bumblebee at 70 to the throat if F'n hurt for long time after and the welt was huge.

I just scrap them off with my gloves

I have had plexus products delaminate my polycarbonate.

I soak my face shield for a couple minutes and wash it with lots of slippery soap and my fingers. Wave it in the air to dry. I never rub it with anything but soap coated skin and only while wet.
I can get a face shield to last 5 years.
