I have a 06 Uly and fiance' has an Scg. The #77 connector on the VR goes bad on the early Uly's and then the VR goes out. Does the Scg have the same problem? No one on the "big bad and dirty" page has ever answered this question for me. If so then I will perform the same repair on her bike that I did on mine. Thanks |

Pso- I believe the 77 connector is common to all the XB's; it's just you hear about them failing more often on Ulys. It certainly wouldn't hurt to check it, and there are plenty of threads in the B,B, & D forum on fixing it. |

Hughlysses-Thanks I know about BBD, I have posted several on that page since my VR went out in the middle of a divided hiway during rush hour, unpleasant. I was just wondering about the other XB's. I know that our Uly's, stators put out lots of juice but I do not know if the rest of the Buell models have the same melt down problem. I guess it would not hurt to check it out. |

Pso- I'm 99.97% sure the electrical systems are the same on all XB's of a given year (you can check the model specs at buell.com for confirmation). What year is her Scg? 08-up bikes are supposed to have a different plug which is immune to the problem. |

The 06 Ulys did have a much higher stator output. I believe that because of this the connector is placed under more load and can create a situation where even small arcing can burn out the connector. The other models have the same connector but a lower output stator. |

FB- At least according to Buell's website, the alternator on all the 06 and 07 XB's are the same. I'm sure the increased output alternator was developed with the Uly in mind, but they applied it across the board. From the Internet Archive: 06/07 Uly spec: 494W peak, 38-amp, permanent magnet, 3-phase alternator with solid-state regulator 06/07 CityX spec: 494W peak, 38-amp, permanent magnet, 3-phase alternator with solid-state regulator 06/07 Lightning: 494W peak, 38-amp, permanent magnet, 3-phase alternator with solid-state regulator (etc., etc.) |

So anything pre-Uly shouldn't have a problem? |

I'm sorry Ft, but I am throwing the book at you this time. I am off to bed so I won't be looking up detailed specs and parts numbers, but you are wrong. Trust me, if there was a higher output stator, I would have it (Actually I heard the 03's are higher, just haven't investigated) Zatco81, all 03-07 XB models are affected to the best of my knowledge. Only difference is, Uly riders actually ride, so we get failures. |
