Well I bought my xb in march and the guy wrote me out a bill of sale. He also mailed me a part as he said he would so dont expect foul play. He also answers my calls and emails occasionally. He said he paid off the bike and has the title and supposedly mailed it friday but I should already have it. Anyway if this continues Im going to take some sort of action. Anyone been thru this or have any good ideas?

Ya Im not sure what time he got it in the mail on friday. He said it would be next day and its only 120 miles away. Im just hoping hes not leading me on becuz ive been waiting over 2 months for it. Hopefully mothers day delayed it. Is there any other way of tracking?

No way of tracking through USPS, had he overnighted with FedEx or UPS then you could track it. Also a tracking number would give you proof that he actually sent it.

You will be shocked at how long it can take mail to travel.

If he's responsive, it doesn't sound like he's ripping you off. I'd give it a couple days before getting my knickers in a twist.

I've had major problems with the US Mail... UPS, FedEX - no problem.

Funny...I shipped with UPS yesterday and at the bottom of my receipt, in big bold letters, it said "YOU CAN"T TRACK PACKAGES WITH USPS"

Nothing like a little slander to drive business. Oh well.

USPS gives you a tracking number but I am yet to have one that actually tracks your package while in transit. I have found the tracking number only updates AFTER it has already been delivered.

(First, USPS has a working tracking system, I've used it and request it because Fed-Ex and UPS charges are brutal over the border. Not every item gets a tracking number.)

Print out all the email correspondence, especially the ones where he has discussed title. Put them in a folder.

Print out all the phone bills that show calls to his number, or request them. Put them in a folder.

Allow some more time for the mail to move, another week or so.

Then talk to somebody legal in your state.

I **think** USPS has a "Delivery Confirmation" not a "Tracking Number".

Could be wrong.

When my Gretsch was being shipped USPS, I was able to track it step by step, even across the border. Great.

UPS is nearly always trackable.

It depends how many UPS warehouses it has to go through before it gets to you. Also Mother's Day weekend is very busy for UPS. My brother works for UPS, and was out until 7pm delivering on Saturday. He said he was as busy if not busier than on Valentine's Day. I would give it a bit more time.

And next time don't buy something unless they have a title in hand. In my state a bill of sale is meaningless.

Ok thanks on the ups stuff. Well alot of times with a new vehicle, the person is still paying it off thru a bank. I had the same situation earlier when I bought my car but I got the title in 2 weeks. The bank wont release the title unless the bike or car is paid in full. A bill of sale means something here. Hopefully the title is just late :/

Here in Ontario, the buyer and seller have to sign a "Used Vehicle Information Packet". It list all the previous owners, liens and some other stuff. Lien is when there is still money owing on it. By rights, that can't be sold because a third party still has ownership of it which is your case.

Anyway, hope you get the clear title soon.

Ok I gotcha. Ya here the most common thing is to write a bill of sale saying the mileage and liens and what bank. Vin number etc etc. I have this and know that NC accepts it but dont know what action to take if the title doesnt come. Im just going to pray and keep my fingers crossed in the meantime haha

What I've done is ask for a lien holder statement(bill) and in front of the seller call the bank and tell them about your intentions of purchasing the vehicle. More likely they will ask basic info about you, like address and contact number to were the release title will go and it comes directly to you after the bank receive their payment and a NOTARIZED BILL 0F SALE. That's the way I've done it in the past and worked good........

I will definitely do that from now on. I bought it on a sunday so nothing was open. Oh well, Im about 90% sure the title came today anyway. I have a envelope at my apt but im not there so I wont know until this evening. Talk about anxious : O

Well the good news wasnt quite so great. I got the title and went to the tag office to get it transferred into my name and get a tag, but since the title was on lien from the bank, the previous owner never got it transferred. So basically I have to get him to transfer it and get the new one back to me before I can do anything. Frustration is the key word here.

Somebody with NC/US knowledge help me here?

Could he approach the bank and ask them to sign off on the lien?

There would be some hurdles and faxing back and forth, but it might get a quicker, clearer answer.

Ya I think the guy got a lien release form but the title still has the original owners name on top so in order for it to be transferred to me it has to say the guy who has the lien release letter aka the guy who sold it to me. If he cooperates it will take a couple more weeks but Im not so sure it will. If buying a bike make sure there is a title in hand haha
