While preparing to add the XB12 air cleaner cover, I thought I would go ahead and reroute the breather hoses to a catch tube and block the holes in the base plate. Here's a pic of the bottom of base plate with holes blocked. The top of base plate looks normal.

Good idea for blocking off the holes. What secures the hose in place?

Friction?

Right, Friction.
The openings are very tight and you have to work to squeeze the hose in.
The other side looks like stock.

'scuse my ignorance , but is there any measurable performance benefit to this , or do you just end up with an oily bike ?

Cheers

LOL.

Theoretically it should keep your air filter clean longer (the race version is pretty spendy) and should help a LITTLE bit in keeping your engine clean. If you get creative with the re-routed hose, you don't need to worry about the bike getting all oily. Besides, you should be cleaning it anyway.

Probably zero to negligible performance gain. The inside of the air box as well as the filter will stay oil free and no hot, dirty air can get into the intake. A catch tube will contain the nasty oil/moisture mix coming out of the breathers so it won't get the bike oily.

They could certainly be used for that, but I like to lavish attention on my own bike. To each his own I guess : ).

Here's how the hose assembly turned out:
Breather hose assembly before threading it through and attaching to frame
This is before I routed it through the frame and attached it
against the inside of the footpeg bracket.
