Just got a couple minutes the other day and have been beating the idea around in my head to paint my sub-frame on my lightning.

But I just cant bring myself to ruin the finish. Well its starting to get the little spiderwebs in the coating from sunlight and hot-cold, so I cant ruin it now, already going to the wayside. But I still cant decide on the color.

been slowly making little texture black portions and starting to like it, but will the subframe be to much ya think?

found little scratches

fixed them

waiting for them to dry

marveled at my 25 min project

in short......think I got tooo much texture black? or the seat rails and the triple trees gonna be next? AND f.y.i. that harley texture black matches the rear wheel sproket and other random bits of the black plastic variety very well, no sheen on the black but to close for first time lookers to tell.

(I'm hoping no one will be able to notice the black I did, see if you can pick whats factory black and what I did )

I guess that shows how well it matches. fresh black looks great. Keep us posted on how the heel guards hold up.

Did the same thing the first night home.
A used 04, XB12R...semi-gloss'd a few things. Much better.

So far the paint I used is holding up well. Two weeks of 84 miles a day...still no bare aluminum. Just a little shinny black on the lower edges.

make sure you sand it real well, and clean before you paint, that stuff should hold on for a while.

didnt come off the first time I rubbed boot on it today when I rode. dont think its gonna chip really, the paint made scuffs on the boot from the texture.

I made about 30 light coats on the damn things to get them really rough black tho, might have made a difference.

I just painted my flyscreen and airbox cover in a matte black with a glossy clearcoat. First of many mods, both performance and visual. If anybody wants to see it I'll put up pics.

My last bike was an 85 sporty. Found it in a woodshed behind a bar. Bought it, rebuilt the whole thing. The engine cases, struts, oil can, and many other tid-bits were the Harley black wrinkle finish in a can. That stuff is awesome!
