Whats the indicated Top speed that you have had out of your XB9/12??

Just being nosey.......

Only had mine to 120mph.

What is the top speed meant to be anyways??

What's that supposed to mean, Rocket? Sounds suspiciously like a troll to me, frankly.

120 is a piece of cake on a xb9, and should be even easier on a xb12.

My mental calculations (on a long superslab trip, so they're definitely ballpark) say an unmodified XB9's *should* be able to get up to around 135 or so. It may take a while, but it should be able to get there.

Personally, I've only gone around 115. Haven't felt the need to go faster.

I've had mine between 135 and 140,it may have had a little more in it too

My speedometer was bouncing around a bit- ok it was me bouncing around a bit- so it's tough to tell (between 135 and 140) but my xb9r bounced off the rev-limiter in fifth gear. unfortunately I got wasted by the Subaru WRX that had been next to me. Need more top end...way more.

132-133 mph, does not take a long time to get there. Yes the rev limiter can be reached in 5th gear if you have a good tuck or slight tail wind.

is there any way of removing the Rev limiter??

(i Just wrote that then thought was a dumb idea it was)

I guess a silly moment in 1st or 2nd could blow the engine.

Other idea is change the sprockets I guess, but thats gonna be expensive too aint it?

i too was between 130-140, not that i wanted to take the few precious seconds to look down at that speed. of course, at that speed your tires expand and speedo readings are far from accurate anyway.

rev limit in 5th gear hit on a 9r as well.

For an XB9 I think switching to the XB12 primary ratio would be the most cost effective. Theoretically should get you to around 150mph, with the race kit and good exhaust it should still accelerate well.

I've had mine to 135. And yes, looking down to check at that speed is a little unnerving. A cop trailed me at 90 MPH on the return trip and stopped the car that was doing 90 with me. I had a moral dilemma. Stop with the car he pulled over, or keep on truckin'?

As the blinkey lights got further and further away in my rearview, I felt better about it and kept on goin'. I figured if he wanted me that bad, he'd radio a friend... Then, unceremoniously, my speedo dropped to zero. It must have been Kharma??

Good thing it's covered under warranty!

Yea my XB9 has indicated 140 on the track @ Road America-(race kit installed). I have my Garmin GPS on the tank bag and on a long rural road clocked 132 on the gps. Fast enough? Yea the rev limiter is the speed limiter. But why go any faster-speed thrills- speed kills

One Quick question to everyone.I not calling you guys crazy or anything but has anyone seen Craig Jones video???The part they filmed his 740 ft stoppie was filmed in Florida and they clocked him at 121mph with a head wind then they turned him around to try for a longer distance and got like a couple more mph out of the bike to get the record.They were showing the radar gun and that was all the bike had.Now they did drop some tire pressure in the front tire so that may have hurt it but very little I would think.Last year right before the 20th he did it again but on a XB12R for a stoppie of 865ft and the bike was clocked at 138mph.Now I'm quite sure that he had plenty of room to get these bikes to go as fast as they were capable.Now I have had my 12 to around 115mph or so and I know there was alittle more to go.

Bads,I believe in the article about the stoppie he had lead weights on the front of the bike,which probably affected top speed

IIRC the 12R had 40lb of weight up front but the 9S didnt.

I have seen 135 and a smidge on my clocks, 9R with race kit -ECM. Is your point that the clox may be way off Bads?

Not at all Stot just wondering why he could only get a 124 mph out of the bike.Even the weight(40 lbs)wouldn't effect a top speed when the guy that is riding the bike,what does Craig way 150lbs.???

I have done 140 and a smidge indicated on the clocks at the touch of the soft limiter on my XB12S. Just shy of 135 indicated on my XB9R indicated. Both bikes are stock.

Craig is built along my lines so figure close to 175-180lbs of wirey muscle.

120 mph @ aprox. 6000-6500 rpm felt like there was another 10-15 mph left

Hmmm.. On my XB9R, at VIR I looked down and saw an indicated 125mph.. but then I had to break HARD going into turn 1. Of course, I weigh a bit (yep, got a sphere of prosperity going here)..

Been faster on two wheels.. but this isn't about other bikes is it.

The only reason I ask is I'm off to Assen GP in June this year, so its 260 miles from Zebrugger port.
Am riding with the old Jap rocket boyz who have ZX6R's CBR's and GSX-R's if we decide to go a little mental I was wondering at which point I'll start to lose it....
I'd imagine they wont do more than 140mph for a short stint anyway in which case it will all be fine.

I tried keeping pace with and RC51 and banged into the hard limiter in 5th a couple times trying to keep him in sight.

137 was indicated on the dial. This on a flat, wide open stretch of hwy.

Man those RC51's are fast.

Here's the straight scoop on Craig Jones. Craig has to sit bolt upright on the bike, and uses a set of high and wide motocross bars for leverage. This causes a huge amount of drag that noone else would ever see, since anyone normally riding at speed tucks in. He says he cannot tuck in to get the top speed and then sit up before braking, because it takes him too long to get situated and comfortable if he does. Who am I to argue with him as to what it takes to be comfortable with popping the rear wheel near vertical at 120+?!!!

He says he cannot tuck in to get the top speed...
Craig Jones' Buell's XB12R Firebolt has been fitted with nitrous oxide injection for extra acceleration.
Looks like he found a way around that small problem...

Thats just sick.... I can hardly imagine starting a stoppie at the kinda speeds that these bikes top out at. Thats just sick....

I sure hope he's at least gonna go for a full-face helmet this time.
