I took my bike out to the Main track at Summit Point over the weekend. It was my second time out at the track, my first of this season. Great track! Lots of fun. I can see how track riding will improve my street skills by getting to see what the bike can really do when pushed. It was wild. I was charging down the straights at 110-115 mph and guys were flying by me like I was standing still. But they all slowed in the corners and that's where the Buell really thrived. I got my knees down on the track for the first time and learned a lot from the instructors riding out there with us. I highly recommend it. You will have a blast and learn a lot. Anyway here are a few pics from the day.

Very cool man. I like how deep you are into the corner in the second picture. Looks like you're about to fly right by them.

You might like the Jefferson course, or the new one (can't remember the name) much better than the main course, on a Buell. The straights are much shorter. A Buell can hit about 110, and the other bikes get up to about 140, but the straights are short enough that most people have trouble passing you if you get a better drive out of the corners and brake a bit later.

I moved away a few years ago, but had a great time on that track back then.

Ben Pickarski (spl?) is an active contributor here, and he rides Summit every so often, you might want to look him up. He lives in the Philly suburbs, great guy despite that....

I see your are using tubular, possibly stock bars. Consider Crossroads for the track. They are more forward, and you can move your body around on the bike without upsetting the chassis. I could hardly ride on the track with stock bars at all, I was putting way too much inadvertant feedback into the bars.

Looks like a lot of fun to me but I have a question. Do you mean the Buell won’t go past 110 115, or was it you ran out of room to keep accelerating?
What is the top speed of the 12 engine, I had assumed it would do around 130 140?

I may be hitting the WERA race at Summit Point Sept 20. I will be in the area for an unrelated event and might bring the race bike along!!

I actually have Crossroads bars on the bike. The Trojan Jacked Up seat was not good on the track. I was not able to slide my butt back and get my head lower. Next time I will go with the lower stock seat. I rode the Jefferson track at Summit last year. I plan to go back again in August. I once got my 12 up to 118 or so but that was it. I was just comfortable running the straights at about 110 and not trying to max out. I knew I could not keep up with the IL4s on the straights

Killer.

I love that back section on Jefferson.

The bumps in the right at the end of the long back straight are the only place my pegs drag consistently. 80mph or so, cranked over, sliding through the bumps. That rules. Then the tight back section is great too.

I could never get the balls to hit the right at the end of the third short straight/kink as fast as many of the guys, but loved the tight stuff after that, all the way out of the left onto the front straight.

I envy you.

I thought the days of being the only Buell at a trackday event were over. I guess not!

I was at a track day on friday with Absolute at the NJ Motorsports Park and was the only Buell as well.

No one asked me if it was leaking oil though. So I guess that is an improvement.

PS- Gjm, you are looking real good for only your second track day. I hope you stay with it and maybe come join some of us in CCS to do some club racing.

Pete
