Just wondering if anyone has shortened their kickstand? The bike seems to sit more vertical on its stand than any other bike I've owned. If the stand were shorter, perhaps this would help prevent it from idling off the stand. Anyone looked into this?

PS. Maybe Bubba could come up with a solution and call it "The Drumstick." Get it?

Are you talking about the original kickstand or the factory replacement kickstand? The replacement stand supposedly solved the problem by allowing the stand to kick out (forward) a little farther, I think. Or some people modified the stop on the stand to accomplish the same thing.

I still have the original one on mine. Only once did I let the bike sit and idle facing downslope in my driveway. I turned around just in time to catch it. Almost every time I am on the bike when it's idling.

My understanding is that a shorter stand has less leverage against the vibration...Its the kick forward lock that you need.

Yeah but I can see that with a shorter stank there will be more weight on the stand and would think it would be less likely too kick out .. My 2cents

How about both? Shorter stand and kicked further forward?

Thanks. If it's the old one, can we upgrade easily, does Buell pay for it, and if not.... how much?

PS. Hey Bubba, could you do a Drummer in a polished can? I have the polished race kit can and if I decide to "upgrade" later to The Drummer, I was wondering if you could do that can. I still have my stock can. However, I'll have to ride with my race kit a while to see how much I like it first. If it's quieter than your artwork, I will likely stay with my race kit.

My original kickstand on my 03 XB9SL broke in the canyons of the BRP. The replacement was the long one that caused a very funny scene at a ride when the bike wondered forward and right on top of my strapping my boots on. Those bikes are heavy when they are on top of you!!! Dealer replaced it in warranty.
ps. no damage to bike or me, just my pride.

You can also grind a little off of the stop on the stand and it will go forward a bit more, thus allowing the bike to lean a bit more. That is what I did after not being able to get my stand replaced by my dealer even after Buell Customer Service told them to. And Yes, I don't let that dealer touch my bike now.

Cpt, how about mentioning the name of said dealer? I think we should make an effort to identify dealers that give poor Buell service as well as the ones that are outstanding.

Seems to me it is easier to list the few that give good service. Unfortunately, there isn't one close to me that does.

My two favorites are Iowa HD/Buell in Waterloo, IA and Kegels in Rockford, IL. My preference is for the shop in Waterloo because Dave keeps me informed and included in activities and their service is excellent. Both are about 125 miles from where I live.
