I have had a boner for an XB12R since HS, and I finally found one for sale locally. It is an 05 with 15k miles, black/gold with spare set of red fairings. The only upgrade is a corbin seat. He is asking 5k, I offered 4k.

There aren't any like it for sale in my neck of the woods, so it is hard to compare.

Any thoughts? Things to ask or look for?

Somewheres in the middle sounds good. 15k really isn't that much.

Have you tried Craigslist? Check the Buell AND Harley dealers in Florida, you can do it online. I know a dealer in Ocala had an '05 or '06 but that was like a month ago.

If its in pristine condition I would say $4000 is a steal in California that would be a good price.

Most 2005 600cc's are going for $4000-$5000 in this area, maybe a bit lower with the economy and the condition is a factor.

Aftermarket parts shouldnt add to the cost, but could add to how much you like it.

I enjoy modding it myself!

If you can talk him down to $4000 go for it.

I'm in California too and 4k would be a steal but 5k for it sounds like it would be a fair price.

To put things into another level of perspective I have seen some 2005ish SV650S's for around $4000-$5000.

When I was shopping for an SV before I decided to get an R6 (and ultimately a buell) $4000 for a pristine condition SV would've been a good deal. $5000 would've been acceptable for low miles, 2005+ and near showroom condition. That was before the economy spiraled down but still its a valid point.

If you can get a good bit under $5000 then you'll be spending the same as I was looking to but getting a more powerful, more unique, and MUCH better handling (non-adjustable budget suspension vs. sweet Showa suspension) bike.
