I need help. My buddy had a small accident on my bike. No bad damage just a few scratches on the plastic and swingarm. And minus the oil it leaked out of the top. My problem is the bike wont start now. It is at the shop in the hands of a friend who has replaced the plugs and checked the computer and the lean angle sensor is ok. Bike turns over just fine but thats it, no start. Any ideas? |

how long ago was the wreck? what happened to the bike in the wreck? what 'top' are you talking about where the oil leaked? badwebers, what would make it leak oil from the 'top'? the airbox? |

From the air box cover. Had oil on the air filter and it ran out and down the frame. Im guessing out the vent tubes maybe? Wreck happened Thursday last week and was on its side maybe 15 seconds. (Message edited by Artic_12_r on April 30, 2009) |

Have you cleaned the air filter? Oil soaked filters don't allow air in so you miss one of the fire trinity (air, fuel, spark). |

I was thinking that maybe the bike needs some time upright to let all the fluids settle, but thats not the case, it has been a week.... are all the oil levels up to par? maybe it lost too much.. top off the bike, spray down or clean the throttle body/velocity stack the best that you can. even at that, just to get the bike started, you can completly remove the airbox and filter and try to start the bike. I dont get it, the airbox is a well sealed off system, i dont see how the oil made it down to the frame on the outside. unless you have that open airbox modd. never the less, top off the fluids, check the spark on all the plugs, if the spark is a go and it still doesnt want to run.. im guessing that the bike needs to be runned, forcefully. last thing i would ever try: while the airbox is still open spray some starting fluid down the stacks and try to start the bike, that stuff is explosive and meant for this type of mojo. when trying to save a drowning man, you need to force their lungs to start working again, put some air on the lungs, same concept. if the bike doesnt kill over you've got problems. kindof a ramble, i'll number it out.... 1. top off the fluids 2. check for spark 3. clean electrical connections from possible oil contact 4. remove all things above/around the airbox.. no filter, no cover, no enclosure 4a. clean the intake.. velocity stack/throttle body 5. try to start the bike 6. no start? get starter fluid, spray down the intake and fire it up. |
