Got on the brakes really hard today and got a pretty loud click out of the front end. Is this normal or is it something I should look further into. Everything works fine and all just didnt know if something may need to be tightened, or if anyone else has had this. | ||

Did they click just once? They'll do that. It's a floating rotor. Walk your bike forward and backward & apply the brake. It will click/thuck once, but not again if you apply the brake walking in the same direction. Walk it in the other direction and it will do the same. If this is the noise you heard, no worries. | ||

There are 2 sounds that are quasi normal on our front brakes: 1) the light (VERY light is normal) clunk as you first apply the brakes. We have floating rotors that will sometimes set when the brakes are first applied. Very light... and 2) a constant clicking once the brakes are applied- I feel best described as the sound a cicada makes. Very normal. If it's more than that, look into it. I test rode an XB9R once that was missing a caliper bolt- it made a loud cluck as the caliper grabbed, spun around a bit and hit the fork! | ||

Could also be the steering head bearing, mine started a couple months back, when I would hit the front brake hard it would click (little play in the neck). It started to get looser, I retorqued it, but the click came back, after that I took it in and had the tech do it, no problems since. I think why I couldn't fix it was because the lower triple had a good clamp on the forks, even without the bolt in, which left a little gap, I should of gave it a little tap to get everything tight together. | ||

Ya after i read this i went out and walked it around. It is a loud click when applied hard and when i let off a quieter click. I.E. CLICK.click. Only seemed to do it going forward. It is still under warranty but i just had it in there for the rocker box gasket and asked them to check it over for anything else. It was warranty work though so... Think its anything i need to be really worried about or just ride and keep an eye on it. Cuz i really dont want to have to take it to the dealer now that its so nice out. Obviously will if i have to. | ||

Ok so more info. Its not under braking. It is when the front end goes down quickly. Jammed the front end down just standing still holding the brake. This is when it clicks. Hopefully that explains it better, and will help more. | ||

I had a similar noise on my xb12scg. i could hear rattle when the suspension would travel. What i finally found was the bracket under the fly screen that holds the horn was broken and the horn itself was bouncing and causing the rattle. | ||

I'm betting it's the steering head bearing. The easiest way to find out is to put your ear up to the steering head bearing while someone squeezes the brake lever and pushes the bike forward/down, or whatever you did to make it click. If it's coming from there, then you need to retorque the bolts. Takes about 20 minutes to do. | ||

also, I rode mine for about a month with it clicking at every stop, no problems, but it's always better just to fix it and stay safe. (Message edited by jeffroj on April 29, 2009) | ||

I had that when my front wheel bearings went. I put it in to find the click. The bearings were shot. They replaced them and that fixed the click. | ||

I have an 08 S it clicks since I upgraded to the new clutch cable holder. I think something in that area moves and hits when the forks go up and down. | ||

Jeffro, that would probly make sense if the bike had been in a small front tire to another tire fender bender wouldnt it. | ||

Are you asking, because this happened, and you think the click is a resultant of it? Mine just loosened on its own, never hit anything, maybe because I am always on the brakes too hard! Have you pinpointed where the click is coming from yet? Either up top at the neck or at the wheel? | ||

Yes this did happen and i thought it might have something to do with it. I cant seem to pinpoint where exactly. Im just gonna keep an eye on it and swing by the dealer when im around, since its still under warranty. Thanks for the help. | ||

+ 1 on the steering head. If its still under warranty let the dealer do it, if its a good dealer. If not retighten everything yours self its not hard. | ||

if i heard sounds coming from the front i'd really want it fixxed!!! many years back i heard a clicking sound coming from the front end of my KX (same style forks),i ignored it and rode on, about the 3rd lap around my track i hit a jump and a fork leg locked. the bars hitting my face damn near knocked me out cold, i tasted blood for a week. | ||

Thanks for the help guys. Went to the dealer today and they torqued the neck bearings and the front end for me and alls well. | ||

I had a click on my bike when it was brand new. Seemed to be the caliper. I checked everything... brought it to the dealer for the 1000 mile or whatever.. they checked it.. just the brake pads clicking probably | ||

I had a click that you could hear every time the front end would dive. Hold on to breaks and push then click. I backed out the pinch bolt on the stem cap nut. retorqued the stem cap nut to 42 ft-lbs and then the pinch nut to 17 and the click went away. | ||

Did you have to loosen the fork pinch bolts and if so, does anyone know the torque for those. |
