My fellow Buellers: I've read it here many times before, but it's something else when you go through it yourself... I finally swapped out my tires on my 06 XB12R. almost 9k on em' Yup, I was riding around on cords. Since I've been commuting to work and back, I didn't give it much thought. Jesus Mary and Joseph! These new Michelin Pilot Powers make my bike feel brand spanking new! The flickability, grip, and overall feel of the bike is just night and day! I also just put a pair of Pilot Powers on the XB12R I recently bought. The previous owner ran the tires WAY too low on pressure and really messed up the profile. I've run Pilot Powers for the last coupla years on my R1. Was hoping they'll make the XB feel lighter at the bars. Going out in a few minutes to find out... Mike | ||

Keep us posted 1_Mike! I know the Dunlops my bike came with were notorious for being the wrong tire for the XB. Haven't gone twisty hunting yet on these... | ||

Jraice - I went from the stock diablos to the Michelin Pilot Power 2ct's and it is a big difference. Th bike turns in quicker and feels more agile. Plus the 2ct's are wearing better. I have almost 7000 miles on them and I am estimating I will get at least another 3,000 (probably wishful thinking). I only got 7,300 out of the stockers. Oh yea..........! Only put about 25 miles on it with a tiny bit of...sorta twisties...about 16 or 18 long turns. While the Dunlops were worn, the Pilots made the turn-in's much easier and predictable. Hope they do the same to my 1125. Mike | ||

7k on PP 2cts? More room to go? Wow,I dont think I have ever heard of somebody getting THAT good of mileage out of them. I recently bought some Bridgestone BT-002s for my Firebolt. Things are amazingly grippy! Wont last too long though. A couple hundred miles on them and I can already see a flat spot in the center, damn commuting. | ||

Jonzin, are yo running the power 2ct or the road 2ct . I have been debating about the pilot road 2ct, to get more mileage, but if I can get 7k out of the power 2ct, that wold be good enough. Rick | ||

Jonzin was the 7,000 a typo or are your talkinga bout the road tire? I have 1000 miles on the tires now (stock 2009 so I guess that means I have diablos). I have always heard they were a great match for the buell but I wouldnt mind something a bit more "agile". Not sure if I would go with the 2ct though, possibly. I was thinking of just straight pilot powers, but as I do ride commuting/touring as well as twisties maybe a dual compound tire is the way to go... Thing is the 2ct pilt power is still regular (relatively grippy) power in the middle and then even grippier (20 percent I believe) stuff on the sides. The street 2ct is power on the sides and harder street compound in the center but I think, considering I own the bike for pleasure and ride twisties daily that I would want something better. I guess maybe the power 2ct is worth a try! | ||

I have the Michelen PPs right now. Unfortunately the rear has two nails in it. I have Pirelli Diablo Corsa IIIs on the way. I will let you guys know how they compare. | ||

So the stock Pirelli's, how would you guys rate them? With the R6 I only put a few thousand miles on it, never changed the M3's and never experienced them new so I wont compare. Only tire I have ever used from the start with no mileage were the Pirelli's on my XB. | ||

Not a typo....put the Pilot Power 2CTs on at 7,300 miles and now it's at 14,200 miles. The majority of my riding is on the freeway commuting daily. Living in AZ I get to ride year round. And you have 3-4 thousand miles left! Thats amazing, I dont know how that can be. Yes they are the 2ct's with the softer compound on the edge but the center is still regular Pilot Power, which I have never heard of that kind of mileage with, even down the middle (commuting). You sure you didnt accidently get roads?  | ||

Just did a search, one guy got just over 7,000 miles out of the rear and over 10,000 out of the front PP and that was a shock to the forum. Cords were exposed at 7,000. 11,000/15,000 R/F is about what the roads would do. Still sure you have pilot powers? Or rather, that you have 3,000 miles left in them? | ||

whats the best tire that will last, you know a couple burnouts here and there, my tirer blew out last night on the turnpike and it really wasnt that bad at all so im guessing i ran over a nail or glass or somthing do they have any tires with some meat on them, this is a toy and not a racer I dont go curner carving just a cruise or so on the weeekends but I will light the tire up for the hell of it here and there, looking for a beefy tire if there is one | ||

I'll take pictures when I get home from work....lol... I was able to get 7,300 miles out of the stock diablo rear tire before I had cord showing.... Maybe I am just lucky or I have over estimated the remaining life of the tire, but I do know for sure they are the Pilot Powers...even went outside and checked last night because you had me doubting myself. | ||

Pretty amazed at some people's mileage. I only got 2k miles out of the stock Dunlop 208s on my 06 xb9r. I can get about 4k miles from PPs or PP 2CTs. Guess living minutes from the dragon will do that. Definitely love the feel of the PPs. Will be giving the road 2s a try soon for more mileage since I probably won't be doing more track days with my Buell. Speaking of the BT-002s, yep, very sticky, and wore the rear out in 2 track days on my cbr. | ||

My Buell handled terribly on the stock Dunlops. My Buell handles great on Dunlop Qualifiers as well as Pirellis. My GIXXER handles like a champ on Dunlop D208s. I mean, it just wants to corner harder and harder with perfect stability and no stand-up under braking at all. It is just an odd steering geometry on the XBs that causes the OLDER Dunlops to handle quirkily. They are good tires for the other 99% of bikes out there. | ||

I got 5k outa the stock Diablo T rear. I switched front and rear to Diablo Rossos. I'm at 3k and hoping to make 5k on the rear. The front looks new. Compared to the T's the Rossos are a very good tire, warm up pretty quick, stick like glue. I had the T's to where I had maybe 1/4" of chicken strip. The Rossos I've got over 1/2" still. I still ride just as hard, if not harder. | ||

i swear by the pp 2ct! small burn outs and aggresive ridding i have 7k on front and rear. the sides still look brand new, i think i can get another 2k or 3k out of it though. They handle better, ride better wheeley better and dont slide in a corner or fishtail powering out. pulled a second gear wheeley in the rain at 60 with them 2 months old. you wont be dissapointed they will do everything you want them to and more! |
