Does anybody have a muffler diagram for a XB9? I've seen the one for the 12 but not a 9. I tried searching and couldn't find anything. My question is does the inlet pipe continue inside to a baffle or does it just dump into the front chamber? I'm working on a muffler design based on xopti's design, I'll post pics when I have it drawn up. |

I haven't but they seem to be interchangeable which is kind of weird but then exhaust flow physics is kind of weird. |

The 12 has the valve and the 9 doesn't, that's why I'd like to see a picture. |

the inlet pipe slides onto a pipe in the front wall? |

So here's my plan.
My question is should I hack the inlet pipe to dump into the front chamber or relocate my center pipe to the side so the inlet pipe will flow directly into it? I'm thinking if the inlet pipe dumps directly into the front chamber (along with the bolt/washer trick) it will add to the resistance helping the low rpm torque problem? Am I thinking correctly? Why will this work or not work? Thanks in advance for your input. |

I'm not a computer person so I can't draw but i'll explain best i can, till somebody else can do better: The 9 pipe has three pipes front to back. Take your pic above and add a pipe on each side of your center pipe, from left to right we'll call those 1,2, & 3, then perforate the center pipe from inner jack point to the other inner jack point. The inlet pipe connects to pipe number 1, which runs down to the open chamber closest to the rear tire. the air circulates in there and is forced into pipe # 2 AND the open chamber in the center because of the perforations, this is where a lot of the "silencing" happens. It is also forced into the open chamber at the front nearest the front tire. Circulates and is fed into pipe # 3 which travels all the way to the exhaust tip. I've modded 3 of them and have finally found a sound and performance that I like. I let my brother ride it down the road when it was on the bike and it really sounds like a friggin airplane off in the distance. I only used one outlet in the original position, but much bigger. Because it was a 'creation' it didn't look all that appealing. But I've got one on the shelf and will be making it when time allows! |

I know that a lot of people complain about the gutted pipes killing the low end torque so I'm wondering if my design will cut down on the loss of power. From what I've read it sounds like it will but I'm not the most knowlegable person here. Point out my design flaws and I'm open to suggestions as long as it's not "Buy a <insert>." |

I like this arrangement for outlets. The two pipes out the back looks like a pig stick figure. Not to mention, this way looks so stock no one would give you a second look during inspection or smog check. |

I like the tips on the sides of yours but I really like the shortened look. I think it would look funny shortened with the tips on the side...IMO. |

I was up late putting it back on last night before taking it around the block which I'm sure the neighbors appreciated. It is FREAKIN loud with no loss of power down low, actually seems to have a little more pep. If you like a loud, deep, raspy exhaust tone (which I do) I think you'd like it. |

Thanks for the compliments. It's not bad for my first one. I like the way the rear turned out but already have ideas for my next one if I ever get around to it. I wanted something different. |

That looks COOL! Innovation, I Love it. I have a TON of ideas, from pure custom X pipes to using auto mufflers like the Latus, too many ideas and not enough time... (Message edited by mesafirebolt on April 30, 2009) |
