Hey All! Wondering if anyone knows of an aftermarket seat or even a Buell product that will work better for me. I find I slide forward onto the Airbox when I ride. I have to keep readjusting to move back on the seat. Sucks! Any ideas out there. Thanks!!! | ||

Have you road other bikes with clip ons? Could be that you are not used to the riding position, perhaps some stomp grips on the tank would be good but if you just want to flatten the seat I'd imagine it would be easy to remove the cover and reshape it yourself... and much cheaper then an aftermarket solution. | ||

I've read from a few posts that the street fighter seat helps. Is your seat textured or smooth? | ||

Hey JR, Well, I'm sort of a new rider and this is really my first non-dirt bike.. So not quite sure how to know if I'm needing an adjusted riding position or just need to suck it up. It is super uncomfortable though being pushed forward like that. Not sure what clip=ons are or stomp grips but i will try to find out. I am really tall, 6'4" so I concerned about getting a shorter seat or cutting down my existing one. I was hoping there would be a better seat that might put me back just off the airbox a bit. | ||

My seat feels super smooth, maybe thats part of the problem... Need some texture or grip on the seat? I read about that streetfighter seat but ppl say its shorter which sucks for me... | ||

Clip ons are small bars mounted to the forks rather then regular handle bars. Cant admit that I have taken a look at the R but I am 90 percent sure it has clip ons (just like every japanese super sport, its not one bar, its two clip ons, one on each fork). Stomp grips is a brand, techspec is another, they mount on the tank where your legs rest. They will keep you from sliding forward and back, take some weight off your wrists and make you more confident in hanging off. Sounds like it could just be you getting used to having low bars (clip ons)  . Big difference from a dirt bike... Personally I think clip ons have no place on the street, but thats just an opinion. I love having regular handle bars on my Ss, for spirited riding they could be just a TAD lower but overall I think they work perfect for spirited and non spirited riding. True clip ons are just too low, they put to much weight on your wrists, and are only really needed for extremely high speed turns (well over 100mph) or aerodynamics, both are found on race tracks (and race replicas). Dirt bike racing is one of the most demanding sports for handling and manueverability, do those riders lean way forward? Nope | ||

Better to have the grip on the tank (stomp grip or tech spec) then the seat... You want to be able to move around on the seat when/if you get riding hard enough to have to shift your bum around. | ||

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like the stomp grip might be the way to go. But it seems like my legs grip mostly on the frame (fuel tank) though rather than the air box. And I get pushed up against my frame slider with the inside of me knees. SO would the grip pads be just for the airbox? Not near my bike right now but it seems I would need grip on places away from the airbox.. My goal is to stay back away from the airbox area. | ||

I have not seen a stomp grip or tech spec kit for the buell, but they may make one... But it can go anywhere or you can buy the material and make it yourself (on the frame). Whereever your legs touch is where it should go. Stomp grip is a bit rougher of a material, tech spec is a bit less. Do your own research, both are similar. | ||

They make the grip for the frame and air box. I think putting it on the frame is the way to go. And all the newer seats have texture on them, you can still move around but I think it would help you from sliding forward a little. Maybe your local dealer would let you try the street fighter seat in the parking lot, at least put it on and sit on it, to see if it's to low. | ||

I'm 6' on '03 9R. I switched to the select seat that made it more comfortable, still not cadillac. Added the XB pegs, that allowed an inch more drop, that made it more comfortable. I also gave up fighting the slide into intimacy with the airbox and that's when I came to the conclusion that the bike is designed to be ridden that way. Handling/cornering is a lot better in that location. My wrists stopped hurting because the box helps keep the weight off them. I've gone from resting every hour or so, to riding to low fuel light without discomfort. I suspect that some of the suspension/handling/wobbling complaints come from people who are trying to stay too far back. Have a look at some of the pics from people who really enjoy this back. They are sitting right on the box. |
