Here's the latest version from the Booger Welding Company (me). This one uses a 2" downpipe, 2&1/2" side pipes, with 1&1/2" openings in the inserts. The inserts and rear hangers are integrated into one piece of 1/4" thick steel for durability. The front is held by springs.

Are you going to be able to put the chin fairing back on?

Just curious.

I've many times considered making brackets that use existing bolts from the engine, belt tension pulley, etc. to mount the chin fairing independent of the exhaust, but I kind of like the pipes exposed. Maybe sometime, though- probably after I spend a year in Iraq.

I'm using the stock ECM. -Have never noticed a reason to change. No plug fouling, nor does it seem excessively lean.

I would think about producing them for sale, but I gotta go to Iraq in just a couple weeks. I spent about $75.00 in materials, and about say, 10 hours. If I used stainless instead of clearcoated steel, the price could go up.

Here's my attempt at posting a sound clip...

looks real good. real easy to drop oil filter too. actually looks better without the excess plastic. so hows it sound? neighbors like it? also any low rpm driveability issues? snortin or popping, or fartin at 2800- 3000 rpm.
bet it sounds real cool around 7000.

Sherm, I can't tell from the pic, does that heat up the idle pulley?

Ok, ok... Heating up the pulley? I don't think it does, but I can't imagine it mattering if it raises the pulley temp a few degrees.

The inserts- I added them to provide a little backpressure. They are nothing more than steel donuts, restrictors. They plug the pipes with a 1&1/2" hole in them, the same diameter as the headpipes, I figured was a good place to start. The last pipe I made had 1&3/4" holes. This ones gives a little better midrange, I think.

To solve the never-ending problem with mounts that break on Buell exhausts, I went for overkill by making the inserts and mounts one piece out of 1/4" steel. Picture a connecting rod and you get the idea of what they look like with the big end in the pipe as the restrictor, and the small end poking out the top of the pipe as the mount.

I'll get to work with the soundbyte.
