Stick with the frame pucks. As I understand it, the frame ones do more harm than good.

Both axles and handlebars seems to be all you'll need.

People seem to like DarkHorseMoto, a sponsor on here. Had pics on his website, I believe.

+1 Frame Pucks are all you need to protect the frame.

The only other thing would be bar ends.

Chances are it was a race bike that had them welded to the frame. You don't want to do that because the heat from the welding process will peel the liner off the inside of the gas tank.

IIRC, someone was making "frame sliders" that bolted to the motor. You don't want to go there....

+1 to frame pucks, axle/swing arm sliders and bar ends. I have them and they look great and are cheap "insurance".

I'd still be interested in finding the C.F. "shields" that the race guys are using to cover both engine covers.

Anyone got an idea where those can be found?

Figured I'd show my bar ends, sliders and pucks. Similar to many others.

My bar end mirrors will protect the handle bars...

Umm, my bar end mirrors got trashed at the same time my bars got bent on my 35 mph crash.

I think any bar end guard/mirror/whatever won't protect the handlebars on anything but the smallest/slowest of lay downs.

I could only imagine how that would turn out.
Seems as good an idea as the radio tank bag...

Badbuell08 frame pucks are a must. Just using axle sliders and bar ends are not going to protect the frame. You have a nice 08 firebolt and it will look like shit when you have a huge dent on the frame. Also when you fall your new corbin seat will get torn up on the side with out frame pucks and also the sides of the tail section. I have a friend that though my frame pucks looked stupid and he never got them and now his bike looks really stupid with a huge dent.

The frame pucks are good but they are by no means "all that". A good portion of the frames you see with the dent right in front of the knee cutout had pucks on when the crash that caused the dent happened. I personally know of three such frames. I use a frame slider that bolts to the motor mount on all of my XB's and am sure it has saved my frame several times and it only damaged the bike one time. If you are interested let me know and I will send you a picture and some info. I do not make or benefit from the sale of these sliders. I am just a very happy customer.

Reminds me of the issue with helmets. One will work better in a certain crash than another. If you know how you are going to crash then you prepare for it as best as you can. I can see these working better than the pucks in some situations, but the pucks being better in others. It would make a great mythbusters episode to test out different crashes and what works best. : )

That action shot is my son. It is turn one at VIR. I forgot to put his axle sliders on as we were late for the grid (bike had trouble getting enough air for combustion). On any other day he would have had sliders on both axles.

At any rate, my Buells have hit the ground anywhere from 4 to 8 times (alot I know). Only one time was there any damage caused by the slider. It was the one touch down that I was responsible for. I was on a highway probably going 60 or 70 MPH's. The lane next to me was being forced to merge with mine by construction cones. I made eye contact with the guy in the white Vulva via his rear view mirror and waved him in in front of me. At this time I must have turned my head or fell asleep because the minute I looked forward all there was was a big white Vulva. You may think it's fun ramming in to a big white Vulva, but this time was different. I hit it so hard (Yeah boyyy) with my bars turned a slight bit that it just body slammed me in to the ground. Hard enough that my head hit the ground, bounced up and hit again. Very violent. The impact also ran my elbow bone right through my skin. I was wearing a Vanson with double leather and hard armour on the elbows. Ouch ! This touch down broke the boss off the front head where the slider mounts but I still was able to ride (limp) the bike 45 miles to my home. Damage assessment; new front cylinder head with valves and guides installed $288.00 (shifter, footpeg, blinker as well) I'm not sure how much a new frame costs (cause I have sliders) but I'm sure it's more than $288.00. Even if you can't do the work by yourself, I bet a dealer would charge more to replace a frame than a head. If you are interested let me know.

I've seen worse with the above sliders. Engine mount cracks and the studs break off in the head. In alot of cases the head is also cracked. The pucks do by far better then any engine mount slider.

Good God man...with your elbow hanging out of the skin? Gotta brass set my friend.

I've proven that the frame pucks work really well with 25mph high sides. Road rash on the puck and the cooler plastic there on the left side of the bike.

Sorry Bads1 but I will have to disagree. The head and the mount is still way less than the frame. I also know of three seperate occasions where pucks by themselves didn't save the frames. However, we both know that every accident is different and you never know how well you or your bike will fare untill it's too late. Different strokes for different folks.

As for riding home with the elbow peeking out. I'm no hero I was just to effin chicken to go to the hospital because I have a very very severe fear of needles and didn't want a shot. I clean and disinfect any sizable rash or deep flesh wounds with dog saliva administered by my faithfull hounds Scooter and Junior (pictured below).

For anyone that doesn't actually know Tim (Skinstains), he's not kidding about the above events. I've witnessed most of them in person. Tell Nick to stop crashing your bike!

Just one thing though...how did you manage all the tattoos if you don't like needles?

That's different. It isn't a needle that pokes in your skin and then squirts it's cargo into your body. Giving blood is just as creepy, poking you and then siphoning from you. YUK !!!

Tattoos are different. It's kind of like just getting dirt rubbed onto/into your skin. It's almost like a "stain". For me anyway, and yes I know some people think me to be a bit "off" but eff them they're wrong.

Disagree or not. People I know personally. Paul James (The James Gang), Wes Orloff,Tom Micheals,Rocketsprink, and the list goe's on. There frames are intact and these bikes have gone down and down. As for the sliders you use ??? How many times do you think that little front cast mount can take a impact?? I'd want to replace it after the first impact because I'll bet its weakend. I know what your saying that the pucks can fail. But they work 9 times out of ten. How many times will those motor mount sliders work???

The pucks will not completely protect the frame from impact damage any more than the frame sliders will.

Hit hard enough in the right spot and the frame is going to be toast regardless.

My thought is that an impact hard enough to over ride the protection the pucks offer would probably over ride the frame sliders and transfer those impact forces into the motor mounts.
