I currently have a '95 HD Road King that I've owned for about a year. It's great for cruising... it rides like a couch on wheels. But I am not sure I completely trust the bike. I was riding with my main riding partner (who rides pretty hard) and took a turn at speed and I swear the back stutter stepped. I am beginning to think that the XB9SX may be a better bike for me. I had a Sportster before my Road King and loved it for it's "flickability", but wanted more power for highway use. I really like Nightsters, but don't want the comments about it being a chick bike that I used to get on my old Sportster. Every time I look at getting a new bike, I always look at the XB9SX, but never seem to pull the trigger. Perhaps now is the time? Anyone go from a tourer or Sportster to a CityX? I kinda feel like going from a Road King to a Nightster is a step back too. So maybe it's time to step up to Buell. Thanks for any advise! | ||

I was riding a '95 Dyna Wide Glide for about a year before i bought my '06 XB12R. It will never be AS comfortable as a HD, but for being a sport bike, it is comfortable as hell. I hated how the 's' models looked when i went to buy my bike, but now they look like the sexiest things on earth. I sat on one once and it is amazing. Nice upright position so your back doesn't get sore on long rides, but your legs still sit in an 'attack' position (which i like). I would say go demo a ss/scg/sx so you can get the feel for the bike so you know it's 100% what you want to do, cause HD are nice, but Buell's are fun. I never owned either of the two bikes, but I rode many of them when I worked at a Harley dealer. I myself jut recently bought a CityX, coming from a I-4 600. You might think the RoadKing was comfortable, which it was, but it, to me at least, was heavy, dead weight. I felt the only good thing RoadKings were good for is touring. I'm sure others have a different opinion. My CityX is VERY comfortable, but it's also a different riding position. And the handling blows both of the two out of the water. I say Buell. But, that's just my two cents. Good luck! | ||

We were going up Blood Mountain yesterday, and we passed a Road King, and an XBSS. We stopped at the Appalachian Trail crossing, and they pulled up. Turns out the XB and the Road King belonged to the guy on the HD. He was loaning the XB. After I asked him which he'd give up if he had to, he couldn't make up his mind. They're both great bikes. If it were me though, I'd have to stick with Buell if I could only have one. | ||

I have road a 04' electra glide for the last 4 years . I bought my first buell xb12r last year . I also recently bought a 09XBscg. After replacing the stock HD tires with some elite III's ,the bike felt solid for a 750lb bike. If I am going on a long ride down straight roads. I still like the glide otherwise, the xbscg is a pretty comfortable bike compared to the xb12r. If I had to choose one for everything it would be the xbscg Rick | ||

Bignick, I have had a FLHTCI and a couple of Sportys. I hated the frame flex on the FLH when getting on it but it was a great bike for what it does. I have been cross country on a Sporty and will tell you I was hurting after the third day. My girl has a Nightster and it is not a girls bike by any stretch of the imagination, I really don't know what a chicks bike is or what that means. I love that Nightster and it is just fun to ride. I would have one in a heartbeat. The chicks bike is a comment you get from big twin owners is uniformed. I had a 100hp Sporty and would often hear that until I asked if they had a title and wanted to run for slips. BTW: I have no more HDs and just sold my last one not long ago. I do have 4 Buells and while riding my S1W some idiot asked me when I was going to get a real bike. I fixed him soon after and he got an education on my old rebuilt tuber. Funny how some people on brand new Harleys are quick to criticize someone else's ride. I hate that attitude. BTW: that same guy lives in my neighborhood and he stopped by to ask for help with his Softtail. Can you guess what I said; "I'm sorry, I only work on real bikes" If you are worried about what people think then stick with the big twin, they are nice bikes, if you dare to be different and want to eat their lunch then a Buell is the way to go. No one that knows me ever talks crap about my Buells twice. I sold my FLH and bought a S2T, S1W and S2 with money to spare. I have had 2 XBs and they are refined bikes and loads of fun. If I was going to buy a Harley I would have a Sportster! If I could have only one bike it would be a Buell. Frank | ||

I never owned a nightster but road one last year on a demo ride, Yes the bike is super cool looking and no it's not a chick bike because it look bad ass not like the regular sporty but after riding I can say I would never own one where I live because our roads are so bad the bike gave me a headache because of the almost rigid frame. I was really happy to get back on my xb12Scg after. On an other note if I had to get a HD and KEEP my Buell I would probably look at the v-rod muscle. | ||

i have only rode a buell.it has to be like cruising a caddy and the buell is like a shelby cobra. i even have back pain ..and i feel better and pain free when i ride the buell a lot  i have never cared for heavy mushy cushy vehicles | ||

ive had 2 roadkings and bought my ex a nightster... last year, i pulled into a restaurant on my 08 scg... some stroke had the ballz to walk over to me and tell me i looked rediculous on that little bike.. he and his buds got a chuckle.. i told him that i was sensitive about my age and when the chicks saw me on my harley, they knew i was a geezer and one step away from a trike... i smiled and walked off.. | ||

A common misconception about people on Buells is that they have not "moved up" to a Harley yet. Funny, real motorcyclist know what it is about. I liked all my Harleys but the new ones did not invoke the feelings my Buells do. A number of us have "moved up" to Buells. | ||

i currently have a slew of Buells and Harleys in my garage, and wouldn't give any of them up. If I had to choose, it would be tough, I own so many, because i enjoy so many types of rides... The XB9SX would be a great bike for straightening out the curves, it's very agile, makes good power, and if your riding by yourself, can carry everything you need for a couple of days. My "big" Harley, an FXRS, is very comfortable, and a joy to ride. It even corners pretty damn good for a what it is. It does what it's supposed to, and looks good doing it. If you want the comfort of a roadking, and the handling of a city-X, then you will have to get an XB12XT. Plain and simple, it is one of the most comfortable bikes I've ever had the joy of riding across the country on. It will corner with the best of them, and eat up the miles, all while providing you with one of the most comfortable seat, and riding positions available. Just don't get an '08!!! | ||

yo bart, i know youve been having trouble with your 08... i had the same problems with my 08 scg.... have you read the post i made in the uly section on grounding?.. since i did the grounding routine on my 08 uly, it runs like a champ.. just a thought.. | ||

I had a Sportster XL1200s before I bought my Buell in '07. If you liked your Sportster, you will love the Buell, it just does everything so much better. | ||

wulf what did you do to your grounds?i see mine under the seat are clean and not corroded,was thinking of smearing die-electric grease all over them to keep them from the elements. | ||

mine grounds were bright and shiney, but werent working.... put star washers under your battery terminals and go thru the bike and redo the connections.. then i made up some small ground wires and viola, it ran so much better.. | ||

ahh i gotcha. sometimes on the cars i repair i have too go back and do that or run a tap thru the hole to clean it and it comes back to life. i am a firm believer in dielectric grease on any connection that is exposed.saves lights,cable and terminals. and tickets and BS LOL | ||

Bignick, Is that a made up username, or a descriptive term? The reason I ask, the cityx requires long legs, unless you modify it (ask Mudbug - aka Cityxslicker). If you are a "Big" guy you will be happier on an XT. | ||

Corporatemonkey... yes, it is kind of a description, although I have lost about 20 lbs. recently, I am 5' 11" and 225. I have about a 30/32" inseam. I'll check out the XT too... if I do pull the trigger and switch to Buell, I would like to ride a few and make the right decision. I've always just liked the "looks" of a CityX, but would buy a bike that fits me the best. | ||

hey nick...i am 6'0 and no small man either. love the xb9...i have short legs/long torso 29 in inseam.i dont have any issues fitting on it,and have lost 40 pounds recently,and damn i feel better the more i ride.back hurts far less and i sleep better even. and right on about fit--be it guns gear or helmets or bikes,if it fits like ass you'll hate it. scott | ||

See I have a 30 inseam and I had no problem on the S but since there is no S in 09 I got the Scg and it's the first time I can flat foot a bike but because of my weight I wish they still made the S and thats why I might switch suspension this summer for a regular S. | ||

I went from a stripped, modded superglide to an '08 scg. NO REGRETS. Perhaps guilty of being short - sighted but, no more cruisers in my future. |
