I wasnt able to find anything in the knowledge vault. Can anyone give me some insite on lowing a 03 XB9R or is it impossible. I bought myself a new 1125R yesterday and am looking to lower by XB about 2 inches for my girlfriend to ride. Any help would be great guys. | ||

Try swapping with somebody that got a Scg and want a regular S suspension, that would be 1 inch at least. | ||

I have a yellow low rear spring i can sell you for 40.00 + shipping. that will help the rear. then get the shorter front springs for the front forks. there is two ways to do that, take factory fronts (springs)send one to hyperpro and have it made a single rate but 1.5 to 2 inches shorter. mike | ||

I'm helping someone do it at the moment. You need the Scg front forks assemblies complete (not just the springs), the Scg shock and an early model Scg sidestand. The Scg seat is 1" lower than the S seat, so with a Firebolt you can't get down quite as low as Scg. | ||

Thanks for the response. Do you have any idea about how much it will lower it by changing the rear shock and changing the front. Im interested in the shock for rear. | ||

A friend lowered the rear only on his STT. It made the bike much less stable. | ||

Changing just the shocks on your R will net you about 0.8" drop in seat height. Add the Scg tail and seat and that gets you the full ~2.0" drop. I would suggest finding a local suspension shop and get some custom springs that are 1.5"-2.0" shorter AND progressive. The progressive spring will help counteract the loss of spring travel. You can just do a front fork+lower triple tree/rear shock swap with an Scg, but that is more involved than just doing a spring swap. Either way, you'll get a drop.  -d | ||

I lowered my 03 XB9R. Unfortunetly, it was late in the season and I kept getting beat in the classifieds and ebay, so I had to buy all new. Forks, stand and yellow shock all together were around 950 bucks, with a good discount from Appleton HD. Even with shipping I saved with them rather than locally. BUY USED IF YOU CAN! It will save you lots. I only made about 600 bucks back on my 950 costs but it was worth it. I'm 5'4'', and before I could bareley even tip-toe the bike, now I can put the balls of my feet, pretty much everything but my heels, on the ground. Not flatfooting, but very comfortable. Unfortunetly, I still leave the stand down when I mount up because I'm still a midget. The parts were all from the XB9SL (Lightning Low) and not the SCG, but I'd imagine they'd pretty much be the same. As far as installation, it took about 3 or 4 hours with a drunken 7 man crew of me, my dad, a couple of neighbors and some buddies of mine. All you need is a floorjack, a sturdy peice of wood and a well-stocked toolbox and the XB9R shop manual. (Message edited by b00stzx3 on April 14, 2009) | ||
