Hi fellow badweb inmates
OK here is my problem. '04 XB12R. Drummer pipe, '07 airbox lid, K&N. No ecm mods yet. I have ridden the bike half a dozen times since the pipe and airbox-filter mods with no problem (other than lean surging at partial throttle). Rode saturday and everything was fine for 20 minutes or so until after I restarted and then it almost died at an intersection (the little "engine" light came on for a second) then it recaught and ran fine. A little while later it actually died when I stopped at an intersection. It doesn't do it everytime though so now I am just nervous. Any ideas? I am not sure about doing the ecmspy tuning until I am sure this issue is solved, unless it is related to the pipe and airbox mod, of course. Thanks for listening.

+1 Ochoa...check the actual spark plug cables as well. Make sure they have a good crimp connection and are securely fasten to the plug.

If the check engine light came on there might be an error code stored which you can check with not too much trouble or investment in equipment.

I doubt the muffler or airbox mods would throw an error code, so the ECM would be reporting on the condition of all the various sensors connected to the fuel system.

For more info on retrieving error codes, do a search in the Knowledge Vault here on the BadWeB.

Briefly the idea is to find the data connector and temporarily jumper pins 1 & 2 together, start the engine and count the number of times the check engine light flashes in the prescribed pattern. Cool, eh?
