I'm hoping the video works, but I just finished a project converting my turn signals into running and break lights.

This was done with a unit from Kuryakyn. Installation was pretty straight forward but did not provide anything to turn the turn signals red. I solved this with a product from my wife's friend that is used for tinting glass to look like stained glass. The label was gone so I don't know the name of the product, but she got it from a stained glass shop. I simply brushed it on the stock amber lenses and now they're red! The kit allows for flashing when the brake is applied, but it seemed a bit confusing when you signal and break and all three lights are flashing at different rates for a second or so.

Just a bit off topic, but I found this when I was getting the Panacea light system for the wife's sporty. If you haven't seen that set up, let me just say that it is as impressive as it is expensive. It was a pain to get tucked away in the sporty though. I thought the XB was lacking in space for add on electronics!

Very nice!

One question: Is it a must to integrate the kit into the brake light? I would convert my rear turn signals to running lights but install a separate modulator for the brake light. Is this possible?

I think you could just wire in a flasher down stream of the Kuryakyn unit. I may just try that.

Sweet, I will keep an eye out for the results.

The very 1st thing I do to any bike I get is to convert the rear turn signals into additional tail lights along with the turn feature. It's quite simple, change the sockets from 1156 to 1157 so the light accepts a dual filament bulb and about 1' of wire to splice into the tail light wire. On the Buells I used a red LED 1157 bulb and left out the inner amber lens.
BTW if you want to highlight the brake light feature in the original assembly, install a Signal Dynamics "Back Off" brake light module, it's a 1 wire installation as well.

I used testor's candy red model paint for my rear inner lenses, when I converted them to running lights with relays.

So I had a Rear Alert flasher from Ebay looking for a home so I hooked it up down stream of the Kuryakyn unit. It works fine and is less confusing that the way the Kuryakyn unit flashes the turn signals. With the Kuryakyn unit when you turn on the right signal then brake before the turn left signal would flash with the brake light. It just didn't seem right to me and this is working the way I had hoped for.

To do it over I would probably go the route that Aldaytona described. Do auto parts stores carry generic light sockets that can be swapped out like that?

I simply used 2 standard relays to turn my signals into running lights / turn signals. They don't have anything to do with the brake lights... but it makes them on full brightness 100% of the time, and when you hit the signal button that one blinks off. (As opposed to OEM when they are off all the time, and then blink on)

They work GREAT!
