I heard there is a new recall on 09 XB's that have the ZTL2 brakes. Front brake line can rub against the tire, and wear through causing a failure. Funny thing is, it happened to me the other day on my 06 SS that has the ZTL2 conversion on it. I doubt you could get it warrantied since your bike did not come with those brakes. But you might very well be able to get the same fix done at no charge since you bought a kit that Buell advertised. I'd contact Buell customer service. In fact, I'll probably do that myself as I have the same kit. I will definitely keep an eye on that line. I noticed the stock 6 piston has a wire form on the caliper to help locate the brake line, but the ztl2 doesn't have any such guide. | ||

Court at the moment I need nothing. I dropped my bike off Sunday night at Danbury to get the fuel pump fixed before my warranty expires in a few days. I am also having them take care of my broken brake line while its there. Usually they are good with things like this so I am not worried. If they end up not warrantying it, its no biggie, the line was only about $50. | ||

Got the bike back, they routed the new line around the front of the fork instead of behind it. Didn't get it warrantied, but oh well. I am just trying to figure out why my magnet for my speed sensor on the rear wheel is missing. Also, would you need to remove the caliper to change the brake line? I got some nicks in my front wheel, looks like possibly the caliper hitting the wheel. | ||

I wonder if that's Buell's "fix" - to simply reroute the line around the fork? I haven't tried it, but it seems like it might be a stretch for the line. It's not necessary to remove the caliper to change the line, but I will sometimes remove it to help get out stubborn air bubbles. Are the nicks on the sharp edge of the spokes? That's where I could see caliper removal causing some damage to the wheel finish. | ||

Any questions? . . . your Buell dealer is the BEST place for answers. If your dealer does not know you can call Buell Customer Service. The "fix" is described in details as:

I see so many of these threads where a simple thing like a 5 minute reroute of a brake line gets "internet-ed" to a class action lawsuit and picketing the BBB. Buell dealers, you may have to extract it from some, have access to ALL information about every Buell. They can type in your VIN and tell you EXACTLY if your bike is or is not affected. I'd trust that (in most cases) before an internet chat room. | ||

Hey Froggy, I guarantee you that the dealer nicked the rim. The utmost of care was given to those rims during both the tire removal, replacement, and the new caliper installation. Check the caliper torque. If it isn't 36 FT/LBS someone meddled with it for sure. What is really pissing me off is that effin' brake line. As I told you, me and Nic spent a LOT(way more than an hour)of time adjusting the clamps trying to get that $$hhiittttyy line to work running between the fork tubes like the book shows. I should have used my own better judgement and ran it my way. I know I'm smarter than most engineers but I like going by the book when ever I work on someone else's bike. I'm curious, do any of those big brick calipers come with or have provisions for one of the wire brake line guides ? They sure could use one. (Message edited by skinstains on April 11, 2009) | ||

Hey Froggy, go back to Danbury and tell the wrench to look on the side of his toolbox for that sensor, I found it hiding on the side of mine. | ||

I was looking at new bikes and I only saw the firebolt looking like the brake line has a problem is that what we are talking about here ? Of coarse the dealer didn't know anything about it but hey thats ok | ||

Skin, I found the magnet yesterday, somehow it ended up on the other side of the rotor. Either they took the rear wheel off for some reason, or when they washed it, it got moved. One thing I hate about the magnet sensor is that if its not 100% perfectly setup, it will work hit and miss. Usually by time I figure it out I am due for a tire change.  As for the brake line wire, I looked at the 08 1125R, 09 1125CR and XBs on the floor, none of them had a wire guide. One badwebber made one for his bike.  | ||

The FTW has no front brake either if I recall right. Hell I got the only XB with a overly powerful rear brake, I can lock it up while doing a burnout. |
