ok,so mine was bought already chopped out back.and license plate under the seat/above the rear "fender" and shock. so what i have done is take a license plate light from a toyota tacoma truck rear bumper and make a hole under for the light housing to fit in,and then drilled 2 holes for mounting screws.then wired it to the original wiring harness plugs for the tail light.mine is centered in between the ribs on the bottom of the tail piece. i need to alter where the light shines,it seems to be shining down a bit too much.my light selection will allow some modification do fine tune it. i also used a piece of a rubber sanding block to space out the bottom of my license plate to make it more vertical,so it can be read easier. i was disturbed a bit by something i found.the rear tail piece bolts, not the torx under but the 7/16ths bolts inside.they are regular steel, and there has been some breakage and welding in there on the right hand side of the seat support. and it appears to be cast aluminium.FYI guys, when you bolt steel bolts into aluminium it corrodes, you need stainless hardware or special coated bolts to stop the corrosion.when steel and aluminium touch it causes corrosion.it can eat up the threads and the you are hosed. so if you lose a bolt,or it vibrates loose and gets lost,or you break one.you have to get the correct bolt,IE the dealer to be certain you have it right.a steel bolt for a temp fix, likely no big deal. IE stainless or coated bolts. i think i might get a replacement right side and some correct bolts.but for now,i have to let it be. scott |

Nice work using the light from a pick-up. I went cheap and used my original Buell light. As for the bolts. Loc-Tite will keep the galvanic action at bay. The stainless bolts are the best option but should be used w/ lock washers. |
