My drummer that is : )

Did it with a core fee (still have my stock one) and it was here incredibly quickly.

Was just about to ride to breakfast but now I have to install this thing!

Work shift starts at 1pm hope I can install it and ride to work in time : p

it shouldnt take more than 30 minutes to put that pipe on. If it does, look at yourself in the mirror and say "bad jordan, BAD!"

Any tips?

Instructions on the site are somewhat confusing...

Where in the airbox is the exhaust valve?

Also should I remove the pulley tensioner or not?

Guess Ill go start looking at the bike to see what it all looks like, if I dont get it installed this morning Ill resume tonight for my full day of riding tomorrow : ).

The actuator for the exhaust valve is right on top of the airbox, right under the airbox cover, you wont miss it. as for the pulley tensioner, you'll have to take it off this one time, but when you put the new pipe on, put the mounting straps on the other way so you can get at them from the other side of the bike so you wont have to take to pulley off again.

I left the actuator connected, but you can can get a 'eliminator' for it from American Sport Bike. But, i just cut the cable and pulled it out the bottom with the old pipe.

Other than that, its pretty easy to figure out.

Cut the cable? I dont recall the instructions from Kevin saying to cut it, just disconnect correct?

Thats what I plan to do...

And thanks for the info, using the straps again is no problem correct?

Got the seat and cover off, see the valve right there on top. Found another problem, the rubber strap holding the battery in place under the seat is snapped. Hope I can get one of those easily! Would I have to go to a buell dealer (30min drive) or harley (10min)?

Okay so I am working the cable out, the plastic part in the middle (adjustor) is making it difficult to work its way through. Is it okay to snip the cable? Dont think Kevin needs the intact cable to work his magic with my pipe...

No sure on the battery strap, but i would think that harley would carry something that would do. For the cable, i cut it so it would be easier to take out, i tried getting it out without cutting but it was a pain in the ass, so i just cut it (but i wasnt gonna use it again).

Sounds good, me either, cut and got most of it out, rest will come when the pipe does.

Was putting the airbox cover back on and the back right bolt wasnt going in happily... Dropped it :/ lost in the mess of the bike, thinking Ill find it when I get the pipe off somewhere in the spoiler (cant ride with a bolt hiding around there).

Gotta love working on bikes and losing things : p

Weird, my 09 Red Ss had the same problem, snapped battery strap about 2 weeks after I bought mine. Just go to the dealership and they will give you a new one under warranty.

Takes a little bit of skill to get it back on, use a screw driver to pry it over and back on.

Do you have a race ecm in your bike or ecmspy? "I think" your check engine light will come on if you ride after you disconnect your exhaust vavle.

Thanks for the tip on the strap...

And no stock ecm but I am just taking out the mechanical cable, the valve will still operate and the engine wont know the difference.

Okay got the chin spoiler off, still didnt find the stray bolt...

Dont have a service manual (I know I know, will get one when I get the battery strap) yet so I am a bit worried about the steps having to do with the swingarm pinch bolt and loosening the axle, which bolts are these exactly?

And it says something about an axle tool, I didnt dig around the popcorn but only thing I got out of the box so far was the exhaust itself.

The axle tool is in the little tool kit that came with your bike. It looks like a big nut, and it goes inside the hex on your axle. From there you just use a wrench that fits it to loosen it up. The best thing to do is find a way to support the back end while you loosen that thing up, makes it A LOT easier to take apart

Thanks, and the swingarm pinch bolt?

So just loosen it 20 turns as the instructios say, my back tire isnt going to fall off or anything... ; )?

Guess that means the Dark Horse Moto slider I installed needs to come off!

it shouldn't come off, you have to take the bolt off and pull the axle to get the back tire off. The only reason you loosen the bolt is to get that pulley off, otherwise that belt is too tight on there to move it.

Got the swingarm pinch bolt loosened, any tips on the rear axle bolt? Cant seem to get it to even budge... Ill try a larger wrench.

Also since I have yet to purchase my service manual would anybody mind giving me any necessary torques and what to put loctite on etc...?

I believe Ill need a spec for rear axle, swingarm pinch bolt and the exhuast mounts. Everything else should be small hand tight bolts.

Forget the questions about the rear axle...

Got everything off! Just removing the muffler now : )

Still need to find that stray screw :/ thats going to be the major bummer of my day...

And get the torque settings for everything...

Go to the official Buell website, register as an owner, and get free access to the owners manual online. They have the 2009 manuals up too. Good Luck!!

Thanks thats great to know!

Any thoughts on the stray screw? I cant find it ANYWHERE :/

My dad always said it was unsafe to ride like that, with the possibility of a small screw hiding somewhere stuck in the bike...

Sent Kevin an e-mail but would appreciate any info you guys can give me on getting this thing all ready to ride tonight, have to go to work till 9:30 now but will stay up late to finish it up.

Bikes currently all put back together, most everything is snugged down except the two bolts holding the chain tensioner on and the rear axle bolts.

Got the straps pretty snug, rear ones snugged up but then bolt was protruding too much to get the wrench on there anymore so cant make them any tighter.

Will have to take off the front chain guard again tonight to put a tie wrap on some cables... then I am off.

Will probably swing by Harley early tomorrow morning to see about getting the battery strap, not sure how long I have been riding with it snapped but I cant imagine it being good for it... I guess I could put some padding in for now, atleast for my riding tomorrow.

Drummer sounds sweet at idle and with a blip of the gas! Cant wait to here it rolling!

You can take the pipe off with out having to remove the idler pulley if you have a swivel to use on an extension. You can just slip it through the idler pulley and loosen the rear mounting straps.

I put my drummer on with no swivel, just an extension. All you really had to do was take the front pulley cover off and you should have no problems. I love my Drummer.

You can do it the easy way and get the bold from your HD dealer. It's over priced for a bolt, but they can look it up and give you the right one for 2 bucks. Wish I woulda seen this thread, I didn't take off the Idler pully lok oxygen said.

Didnt find the lost screw, washing the bike before my ride, before I wet it down I am going to use the blower I have for drying it (super powerful) to try and unrattle it from the bike, otherwise Ill just ride and chance it.

First stop, dealer to get battery strap and new bolt.

Then off for a few hundred miles of riding!

Come on somebody get me those torques so I can do them and go to bed in peace!

If I dont get them Ill end up going outside and doing them with loctite but the rear axle (belt tension) and its spindle bolt I want to be torqued correctly, dont want to mess around.

Got the torques... Thanks guys...

Bikes all ready to go! Tires topped off to 35/36.5 because Ill be doing a lot of straight line riding tomorrow and that will be fine in the twisty bits as well. Also added a touch more oil to top things off and will wash the bike tomorrow then off for a long day of riding before I go out of town for a week!
