I'm thinking about getting some custom handlebar grips and getting rid of my bar end mirrors. I really never used my mirrors, shoulder checking every time I changed lanes and turned. Is there any law that says you need mirrors on a bike. There is nothing on the safety inspection check list. Just wondering if anyone as any opinions about this. Thanks |

I always shoulder check. I rode my 9R without mirrors for 3 days last summer. didnt like it. it just felt wierd. Dont know about the laws. but when i'm not changing lanes i still use them to see whats going on behind me and whatnot and without the mirrors i wasnt able to pay enough attention to people pulling up behind me at stoplights. (im afraid of being rear ended on my motorcycle so i'm always watching my back.) |

I rode for a few weeks before w/o mirrors and agree it was just too weird. I got another set of barends. |

Depending on where you drive... I've avoided getting hit in the rear twice, by looking in the mirrors when traffic suddenly slowed.... One guy actually hit the car that "was" in front of me. I snuck past in an area where I "normally" wouldn't have gone...space wise. The space was real wide at that point in time!! Saved my baken...and butt. Mike |

Mirror laws vary by area. Don't know them off the top my head in Canadia. Someone I ride with has dental floss sized mirrors, he had a cop following him for a few miles and never knew. |

4 years ago I was stopping at a stop light and I saw the nose of the Merc behind me diving through mirrors. I popped the clutch and moved the bike on length toward the turning traffic. All scary but I would have been hit if it were not for the mirrors. I've been hit from behind in my car 4 times and always saw it coming. I'm glad I had my mirrors on my bike. So, it's not just turning. I part of the 360 situational awareness. I'm sure I wasn't conscously checking my mirrors, the movement just caught my perriferal vision. Mirrors - one of the little things that saved my life. |

I agree about the safety part. My big ol' red pick up has been reared twice. The thought of that happening on the bike is skaaary. |

It varies by province. However, the safety for NS is online and you must have a left side mirror to ride. Your bike won't pass safety missing any factory installed mirror. Isn't google fun? |
