Just wondering if anyone has one on their bike. The price isn't bad, it comes with a heat blanket...I'm not entirely surer I can get one shipped to my place in Dearborn, though (my German isn't up to snuff)! Unless one of the dealer fellas can get ahold of it?

I think one of our members that works for a dealer imports their stuff along with Adrenaline stuff from the UK.

Well, even if you don't read German you can blunder your way through. It's in the XB9/12 section of the product catalogue, under the last of four choices. Look for 'luft', that's 'air' in German (think Luftwaffe from WWII).

It looks very similar in geometry to the stock, so I'm guessing that's what they used to model it like the guy that just made his own (sorry, can't remember who). It comes with a heat blanket, and I've sent them a few questions, so hopefully they will reply soon.

The XB motor needs more air: given.
The mat is purely for insulation, as lowering charge temp. showed an appreciable improvement on the dyno. Although the cooling system of the engine showed lower and more stable overall temps than any other Harley motor in the 'hot and high' factory test, the tight packaging mitigates against best power production. This is especially true on the dyno, even with a huge 'fan of death' in use.
The stack itself has a more rolled edge than the stocker. Since flow-testing showed that area to have more influence over cfm numbers than any other the shape helps every last bit of air in there consistent with the final throat size and rev-range over which the engine operates. There is no magic stack shape that will make a huge difference to a stock bike, as we will find out on Monday. All you do is slightly alter the air curve, which can feel better if your throttle-hand likes that place and you can add fuel to match it. The system runs without an airbox lid but with the tank cover in place. There are optional covers available.
I imagine, although I am not certain, that something like this is a better first step than other bolt-ons(with the exception of a Drummer which is aimed at an otherwise standardish bike) as it will enable more benefit to be drawn from them, but only if the fuelling is then adjusted. You will get away with a PC111 or techlusion up to the point at which the engine moves a lot more air and you go to a snowmobile carb!
I could be wrong, but I think that most of the riders out there are not yet making huge changes to their XB's (Even though we vicariously enjoy hearing about them) as they ride on the road rather than the track. On the road, throttle-response and mid-range torque make a bike feel faster and more fun to ride. People like Bubba's drummer because its relatively cheap, looks stockish, but puts a lump in an xb's trousers in the right places (and also 'cause his purely accidental marketing stance as a good 'ole hillbilly boy outdoing the large corporations appeals to the romantic cowbuy myth streak in his audience and is sheer brilliance)

I'm sure that Jens (Is it a Hillbilly thing!)can send you a FAST system to the States or you can ask Matt at Adrenalin(Trojan Horse) if you don't think your German is up to it.

I'm fitting one to my 9, together with a Luckys exhaust, but don't expect any results for a couple of months as I have another bike to finish first, and metalflake is very labour intensive.

Sometimes to get a translation you can go to babelfish.altavista.com and use the "translate web page"section. It's fast and works pretty well usually.

What is the Hillbilly cost (Euros for now) for the stack and also the thermal blanket?

Approx shipping costs to the states?

FYI, I got an e-mail from Jen at Hillbilly Motors about this.

1) Their stack will not fit with a XB12 airbox lid.

2) E-mail me and I can let you know what US site you can get them from.

3) Total cost is ~$330US, which includes the blanket, stack, and K&N filter.

There was a note in the e-mail saying that you had to route the oil breather to a catch can - apparently they are now outside the air filter. It also said 'remove the airbox', but I'm nont sure if he meant the entire airbox or just the upper portion.

I'm seriously considering getting one, along with a XB12 cover and then comparing the two (or possibly even working out a way to fit the XB12 cover on the Hillbilly stack).

Christ, I wish I were home to play around with this shit.

Here is some info I obtained from Jens at Hillbilly Motors

First of all let me tell you that the stock XB airbox is mainly a Soundrestrictor. In the Design of an Airbox an OEM Manufacturer have to bring different things in a balance one is the Noisereduction, others are rain, snow and ice protection and of course also the airvolume per second.

When we start to develop together with our engine engineer partner M-TeK Performance solutions for the XB´s, we found very quick out that the airbox is the mainly bottleneck in the stock construction.

High performance engine applications make very high quanteties of fresh air neccesary. The stock airbox is not able to feed the engine in all ranges with the air it needs, its a running compromise not more.

We got on the XB9 models between 3and 7 HP and on the XB 12 between 2 and 4 HP plus. Always -depending what other components are changed. When you drive a complete Buell Racekit you will have 3 - 4 HP plus on a XB9.

We heard about big dicussions in the US Internet about Velocity Stack design, Airbox Top switching from XB9 to XB12 layout, and we also heard that official Buell Dealers think that any way of open Airsystems dont give more HP on XB´s.

Let me tell you, our expirience is that free breathing of an XB engine gives more HP than any "Raceexhaust" and it is the basement of any Tuningwork.

The Thermal blanket is only a protection that the Heatconvection will be reduced under the tankcover.

Nothing against hillbilly motors and maybe I misunderstood but, the comment of "official buell dealers" said this and that.
Well everyone knows that free breathing is a very good thing and the results are usually found to work.

but what "official Buell" dealers was he hearing from.

plus the dyno's are there to prove the 12 airbox top does work.
