I'm a complete Buell newbie. I'm looking for a bike right now (haven't owned a bike in a couple years). Last bike was a Moto Guzzi LeMans and I have owned a BMW 1150GS and 1200S.

The local dealer has a 2007 STT and a 2008 SS at discounted prices. I rode the SS but not the STT.

What changes might be incorporated in the 2008 bike that I would want? The STT is about $1000 less cost.

Thanks.

But are their any engine, transmission, ECU, etc. changes between 2007 & 2008?

They changed the ECM from '07 to the '08's. Haven't found anything to tune my '08 XB12Scg because of the change. Been looking at trading my bike in for an '07 STT that's been at the dealership for a couple years lol.

Um, the '08 SS is not the same as the '09 SS CityX. The '08 SS still has the shorter suspension, unlike the '09 SS shich is actually just a '09 TT with the 'passenger kit'.

So there is significant suspension differences between the '08 SS and '07TT.

The '08 Engine is also completely different. The crank has a larger rod diameter, the rods are better, it has a higher redline(7200 VS 6800).

But, IMHO, the '07 engine, is better. It seems to rev quicker, and by all reports I've seen, get superior MPG(I regularly will see mid 50s on my commute to work with an '07 TT).

The suspension on the TT is superior in 'real world' riding. If you can handle the 1" extra height. The rake and trail is different than the SS. Turn-in is easier on the TT.

I'd say go for the '07 TT.

I have a '07 STT and love the ride. I changed the plastics out to all white and swapped the high fender for a low one and I think it looks a lot better.

The only drawback would be if you want to take a passenger...can't do it on the STT as there are NO rear pegs OR seating for them unless you pop for the kit (around $300.00 I think) other than that I love it.

NOW the difference in the motors has been gone over by others the only thing is you have to do a TPS reset on the '07 but not on the '08. Big deal I've had it done twice. Once the dealer did for free and the other was about $40.00, I got coffee and a tire gauge for free too!

You really can't go wrong either way IMHO.

A Moto Guzzi LeMans! Cool bike! Good news here: You can't go wrong choosing between those bikes. I have an 06 XB12SS. Love it. I rode a XBSTT a Buell Inside Pass event. LOVED it! It's a great bike for the real world, and it was fast and fun at the track...if you're into having fun. I think my favorite thing about it is how so many quickly dismiss it as some sort of marketing screw up. The bike in the photo above looks great. You don't have to paint graffiti anywhere on the bike (ok, that was a bad marketing idea) But, to me, that bike can more than hold it's own.

The Stt was a great bike, had they had it when I was buying; that would have been the bike in my garage... missed it by that much.

Yeah. That article is what I'm talking about. Super TT = Misunderstood. In fact, that was the track day I rode the STT. Road America 2007.

Got a 07 STT, love it, get one while you can.

The 2 seater kit includes the stock SS seat footpegs & hangers & a couple of brackets.
It's more comfy than the single seat & is easier to get your feet down.
