Ok, the bright yellow shock REALLY sticks out the blacked out '09 Scg. I searched and found that Krylon Fusion had been used on a rear shock, but not road tested. Any suggestions?

You mean coil spring? Ive painted many coils with car paint with no problems to date.

you could have it powder coated.

When I searched, Black_Sunshine used Krylon Fusion and did not remove the spring, just masked off the shock. He never did give a road test report, so I was wondering if Krylon was flexible enough for the spring.

If that doesn't work maybe you could wrap it in some kinda high adhesive tape?? Something like black 100mph tape. just an idea if the paint doesn't work.

Yeah, I've been called a redneck.

Make sure if you paint it you dont get paint on the shock shaft or it will destroy the seal on the shock.

It never has yet on any rig Ive built. Ive done it to every off road buggy Ive built and those springs flex to solid. Ive done it with rattle can, and base clear.

Ochoa, your bike is a little more flashy then mine, and the yellow spring looks out of place:

Flat black paint from a spray can should hold up fine.
Mask well all but the spring.

Thanks for the comments. This weekend there is a chance of snow, perfect time to do some painting. I'll be using satin black Krylon Fusion and post the results.

Lonexb, checking out "Brass Knuckles" on my picturetrail page? That would be a custom clod with Integy gear cases, super class, and a Hustler chassis. Unfortunately, I sold it, along with a few others, they just can't compete with motorcycles and ATVs. I still have the TXT-1, TTR Stampede, funny car, XXX-T, and MicroRS4.

This is a little late as you are done. I've died plastic stuff black with RITT Dye. Is the spring plastic coated? Isn't that what powder coating is?

That's what basically all paint is. Only real difference is the application method.

I would love to make my spring red to match my red Ss but I am worried about getting paint in the wrong places with it installed in the bike...

Not to bad?

Jraice, I removed the shock from the bike, and was thorough with my masking. Are you thinking of painting the spring with the shock still on the bike? Don't think I would suggest that.
If you look close at an awkward angle you can see a glimpse of yellow, but it was basically a free mod, so I ain't complaining.

How much work and what tools are needed to remove the shock?

Mine is white and I would paint it red which would work fairly well I would imagine.

I am in no hurry to do this mod but I think it would make the bike look a lot better, even my dad mentioned how the shock should've been red to match the body work like the red shock on my last ride which had red accents as well.

I believe the high performance suspension kit has a red shock but I'd rather just paint this one as I think it rides just great, no need to go stiffer.
