Hey guys,

I've noticed a couple of times the speedo sticking at 0mph. It's happened about 5 times this season and only on cold start ups. If I shut the bike off and restart it comes alive.

Is this a problem?

No, sometimes people change to a custom faceplate and the needle doesn't work as smoothly.

Try cleaning the sensor, one bolt, pull it out, wipe any filings or sludge off and see what happens.

Seems to me that it completely fails when it goes so cleaning may be all it needs.

The 03s seem to have a issue with the speedo sensor, either clean it or replace it.

When mine started to do this on my 03, i took the sensor out and cleaned it. Put it back in and it worked for about another 50 miles. then it went out. Easy to change though.

Easy to change but take pics of the snake pit behind the sprocket cover before disconnecting wires. It will make it easier to reconnect. Wish I had done that.

You won't need to just to clean it.

Buellmalarky:
I have an '06 Ulysses that began to show signs of what you have described. Took it in and the mechanic assumed it was the speedo sensor. When that proved to not be the case they ended up replacing the entire instrument cluster. They were able to get a new one from Buell with my correct mileage pre-programmed and it is working great now.
