I'm currently ordering the parts to swap my handle bar setup on my 08 XB12Scg to a XB12R. Has anyone done this already and regretted it? I think I would like the riding position better when I'm on the highway.

Well, I hated my stock R position, I modified my upper triple clamp. Unbelievable pain in my hands, sometimes going numb from the combination of small diameter of the grips and the amount of weight. Do it if you're curious, but save your S parts, you might be switching back next year ; ) If you are doing track days every weekend, it might be worth it.

Get ready for some heavy mods.

I have a set of modded front fairing/headlight brackets you could buy.

You will still need to buy a different master cylinder though.

I have done a few of these swaps and it is harder than bolting on the upper triple.

yeah, i've already ordered the master cylinder i need. i found a well written thread on buellxb.com on how to do this swap with an oem clip-on set-up. i definitely don't like the aftermarket kit for this so i'm going to have to do a little extra work to make this work. just wondering how people reacted to the change in riding style and if they like it.

That was my second thought! Looks like I'll have to save some money and add a lightning to the stable in a couple years. That was my third thought! I like em both!

thank you for the linky.

but i have Q's. what about the steering head lock? if you add spacers to push the modules forward, will it still engage? or would one have to weld on/extend the pin?
what years are compatible for tree swaps? i know the fork dia. changed over the years, but is that the actual clamping area, or just the internals?

any body got a XB_R top tripple that'll fit my '03?

if you order the right master cylinder you don't need the spacers. look at the pic in the first link and he has a round master cylinder and no more spacers.

See http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/434100.html?1236206310 for clipons.

They are too low for me (lower than an R), so I am going to get riser brackets from Woodcraft when I get some more $$. Crossroads bars would probably have been better. If the low setup is what you need, I could sell it, complete with shorter brake hose, clutch & throttles cables.

Just a note... I found the XB12R I road seemed to be a bit more upright then the R6 (very slightly)... If you like that position its not bad, just need to squeeze the tank a lot to keep weight off the hands...

I would never go back to clip ons, having my back lined up, more leverage for handling, less weight on hands and less sore legs from squeezing the tank is AMAZING.

Only thing they are good for is getting you leaned over to cut the wind...

Nilla, only the fork leg (polished sliding part) changed diameter. The part that the tripe tree clamps to did not. I am sure of this for 05 to 08. Not sure about the early ones, or the latest.
