So I just received a set of Xenon bulbs I picked up on ebay and was thinking about putting them within the next day or so.

Before I get elbows deep into it, are there any pitfalls I need to watch out for? Can I just pop the bulbs out of the back of the light housing (from under the rubber boot), or is it more involved than that?

Thanks,

Geof

I am assuming we are talking about a XBR. Not much more than that, if you can reach them. I had to remove the faring and the headlight bracket. If you have to do remove the bracket, I would recommend removing the brass reflector underneath the lens.

Hi Keith,

Yes, an XB9R. I probably should have made that more clear.

So, you pulled the fairing and headlight bracket off to give yourself more room, or just to see what was there? I'm hoping not to make this a bigger job than it needs to be, seeing as I don't really have any good space to do the work. The less disassembly necessary the better, in this case.

Thanks,

Geof

As long as you have small hands, that's it. I put some cheap Xenons in a year ago. I want to get some PIAAs this year.

My hands wouldn't fit in there. I put in the cheap Sylvainia's. I ordered a headlight bracket and plan to put in some Hella's when I get brave enough to do some carving.

cheap Xenons

Ain't Ebay grand?

Thanks for the corroboration, I'm hoping the extra output from the Xenon bulb will make the difference with the low beam. The high beam is plenty, but the low is downright dim.

what is the new headlight bracket in reference to? is there a different bracket that u use with the piaa lights. when u say carving, are u referring to the larger diameter of the lights?

Carving a headlight bracket is necessary because the Hella lights are a larger diameter by my guestimation is 1/4 to 1/2 inch. I think this is the link that has some pictures.
