I know, I know, XB12R's are for cornering. But, I don't think that would keep them from going fast and straight.}
Does any one know where I can find a wheelie bar for an XB12R????????
} I plan on having fun at the drag strip when I am not going around twisties.
I am hoping I can get her in the SE Class 11.5 sec
in the AMRA.
One of the ways I justified getting the XB is to sell my old XL drag bike.
I still enjoy drag racing. So, I will give it a try.

ya might check the blast area of the badweb... i remember reading about wheelie bars for Blast... don't laugh... i guess they were required by some sanctioning group. that source might also do XB wheelie bars

when i was teaching my sweetie to ride i told her she would not be able to wheelie on the Blast... she had looped a Kawasaki about 20 years ago... damn if she didn't do one... front tire about 6 inches off the ground for about 2 or 3 yards!

i had to keep mine. the buell is a lot of fun. but i need to have a serious hot rod around. dont think there is any way to make that 52 inch wheelbase accelerate like a sportster can. pretty hard to outrun a big inch sportster in a straight line.

Not to go too far off topic, but wouldnt' the extra weight AND the longer wheelbase tend to accentuate wheel spin? Once you launch, there's not much tendency in the XB to wheelie so you can pretty much be at WOT for the whole run. Granted, I weigh 200lbs so maybe that's where I'm coming from but it seems to me that the lighter bike given the same power to weight ratio will always have the advantage. I suppose though, if you have the same power to weight ratio then the launch is pretty much everything aside from grip.

buell xb is only 30 pounds lighter than my sporty. wheelspin/traction is the biggest issue with launching the XL.

Don't know where you can find one but if I had the tools to fabricate one I would bolt a mount to the passenger peg hanger mounts and run a rod through the axle. Reduce shock preload to minumum and compress tying the rear subframe to the swingarm with the strut/wheelie bar combo.

Could probably modify one using some universal Pingel parts.

BTW, I've also been watching rear wheels going cheap on ebay that would mount a nice slick for the strip. : )

Thank you for your response.You guys are a lot more opened minded than I would have expected.

When It comes to going straight on an XB12R.

I have not contacted Pingel,but have looked on there web. I should probably try to communicate with someone outside of Callaway County MO.

I also looked a little at going big bore with the Nallins 1250 kit.
Combined with wheelie bar, good rear tire and a wrist and I think the 52 inch wheel base won't be a factor.
From practicing starts while taking a little fiber off the clutch plates,I feel like if I had a wheelie bar, This bike would rock. I have nothing scientific to back this up other than feeling.

The only problem is the gearing for the end of the 1/4 mi. It falls a little short, again, nothing scientific to back this up other than feeling.
Big Bore and the chain drive with an easy gear ratio option.(some one posted something about that recently)
I feel like , F___ the warranty and see what is possible.
Why not put the HP to it while everything else is relatively new, bearings, lower end, tranny, etc.
What do you fellars think.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I took the passenger brackets off as soon as I got the bike.
It is mine to have fun on. I don't feel the need to put someone at risk.
I have seen many a street harley making there rear end rigid with some sort of strut.
Wish I had a tig and some chrome molly.
Oh well, that's all I have to say about that.

I always go out to watch the AHDRA drags in Phoenix. There are lots of Buells running and they do well, especially in the 11:50 sceamin eagle class. A specific built drag bike would be long and low but why not have fun on Your Bike?They have a V-rod class and it is funny to see them reach out for their forward controls after the launch!

I am waiting on a response from Pingel.
The Blast kit sure looks like it would work.
Thanks for making me look a little harder.

A good friend of mine is racing a 126 HP shovel
and He has had trouble in the past up against Buell's.
Wish I could get the bike to run a 10.9 so I
could compete against him. He runs a pro eliminator class AMRA.

Can any of you big brain folks tell me if that will be possible? You know weight-HP etc. I way in at about 160.
I think I had one too many glasses of wine last night. Typing is hurting my head.

From my limited experience with a very lightly modified XB9R, the standard gearing is about spot-on for the quarter as you would expect.On a really good run you are hanging on to fourth as much as you dare, hoping the rev-limiter doesn't hit just before the lights. The work necessary to be competitive in 11.5 would mean gearing changes would be a good idea. You might go for the 9 primary as a start as it gives higher engine speeds at a given road speed, so you would hit fifth well before the lights and get more snap off the line. At that point your wheely bars would help.
My primary and/or clutch goes out of adjustment after three runs or so, so that might be another 'soft' area to look at.
My best was 12.3@112. I have a k&n, shadetree airbox mod, PC111 off an X1, white wire is snipped, snorkel pulled and bigbore exhaust (Sorry Bubba, its not a Dr*mm*r!)fitted.
Mapping the PC111 made the biggest single improvement (0.35secs)as it put a lump in the midrange's trousers.
