You'll probably have to cut them off.
The glue used is quite good.

TRICK..... Cut the left one off, spray the new left one with wd-40 and install before it dries, then remove the right side one and replace it with the new right one. I've used this trick for ever from my dirt bikes to ATC's and all my street bikes. I've ridden bikes sins the early 70's... I just put a set on my 05 XB12S

Throttle side comes with a new sleeve. The clutch side you will have to cut it off and clean the old glue off. You can put new glue on but if for some reason you remove them again you just destroy another grip again. I use a aerosol hairspray and slip it on before it dry's. Works like a charm trust me.

Clean the bars really well after you cut/remove the old ones. All that left over rubber will make it impossible to slide the new ones on. I used 600 grit sand paper to remove all the excess crap.

air hose is absolutely the easiest way to remove handlebar grips. if the glue is really tough ,take a med. to small screwdriver & insert between the grip and bar to loosen the glue. then BLOW .

Whats nice is the heated grips screw on so you don't have to worry about any of this glue crap.

I never use glue I just wire them on and take them off with compressed air or a razor blade.

X4 to the 5th power on the hairspray trick. Used to use that (and safety wire) with the MX bikes. The grip glues make too much of a mess to clean off every time I changed grips. To get it off, just cut completely down the center of the grip with a utility knife and peel it off like a bananananana.

ps- Completely OT, but the hairspray trick also works on silicone intercooler boots and keeps them from blowing off under high boost levels.

If you want to save your old grips get underneath them with a flat blade screw driver, work your way around the grip to loosen it from the glue then spray windex (or a mixture of water and vinegar, which is the same thing) under the grip. Turn the grip as u pull and like buuuudddddddaaa, she'll slide right off. Then when putting your new grips on soak them in hot water (i do this while i take the old grip off and clean the bars) clean up the bars then apply your glue. leave the grips wet as this will help slide them on and not affect the glue, twist the grip as you push them on to spread the glue out evenly and vvvwwwalla, your done, let the glue set up over night. works for me every time

When I removed my left one I used a philips screwdriver that I kept spinning underneath it and it did separate it from the bar without destroying it. The right one just slides off for me, now I have both of them intact. I got the gel thick grips from American Sport Bike and I put them on with windex, lubricants are a bad idea, windex or soapy water will get them on and it will dry up.

And if your real cheap or on the road and need a quick fix for loose grips, Plain ol soda or a shot glass of water with a few packs of sugar mixed in. After it drys, it aint going anywhere. Don't waste beer but it will also work.

I din't use anything when I put the new ones on and they're not going anywhere. I used to use the wd40 (on bicycles) and it always worked.

No worry about the throttle side, the traction grips come installed on a new sleeve. No need to peel the old rubber off, just remove the entire sleeve.
