I have to share my muffler experience with everyone.

I am on a tight wife induced budget but was recently able to get $3k out of her to purchase a slightly beat up 04 XB12s. Since I got it all I have done is research/research/research what I am going to do to it with cost being the biggest factor. I was dead set on a Special OPS muffler as the people who get it love and they really seem to like Odie. Well, my buddy was trolling Craiglist for the Atlanta area and sent me a link to a guy...10 minutes from work who will mod the mufflers for $175. So I called him and next thing I know I am at his house checking out his immaculate 04 Buell. As soon as he started his bike I knew that was the one I wanted. It gets better, he gave me a modded muffler to put on my bike to try out with no $$. It is awesome! I got it on in about 45 minute and still haven't stopped grinning. I look forward to paying him.

I can't even remember all the things he told me I needed to do to my bike and has offered to help. Thanks Randy I really appreciate it!

I took some before and after video and put it on youtube. It was taken with a digital camera so it doesn't look/sound great but still kinda neat.

Apparently there is a lag on the video. The link will work once youtube does their thing. My bad.

Not too bad. You should listen to a drummer. wish I could afford one. : (

The 2nd portion of that video sounds just like my gutted stock muffler.

I suggest your next purchase be some frame pucks, it maybe the best 50 dollars you spend.

Can't afford a drummer. See first post (tight wife). I am talking about HawkPerformance but was reluctant to just say it because he doesn't advertise. He is an awesome dude though. Has helped me on so much more. Also, pucks are on the list due to that ding in the frame on the right side.

I got one of his first dual exhausts last summer. I had the race exhaust before that and this one is hands down better. I think it sounds better than a drummer or special ops being that I've heard them all side by side. This one has a more deep sound to it with a pop.

This video doesn't do it justice. There's a clip on the website that sounds descent.

BINGO! XI_cheese, that is exactly why I liked it so much. The sound is very deep compared to one other bike I have heard. An then it just came down to the price and plain old customer friendly person Randy has been.

My bad on the video. I am going to try to do another one.

Actually, this pipe is a lil bit quieter overall than the drummer.

Of course it is my bike but I think it sounds just right. Not too loud and not quiet either. I am going to put up a better video soon.

I've cut my muffler apart soo many times and can tear it apart and put it back together in my sleep! Please dont think theres any special mojo going on in the drummer or anything else out there! If you can cut, weld and/or fabricate then modding your muffler is not that difficult! gutting a muffler is simple and sounds ratty, but will give you more volume! It will probably vibrate apart though! It's ok to experiment and try different things! Thats what KDfab did and he charges for his time and equiptment. I personally have turned mine into a big fat glasspack and put a 2.5 in pipe outta the end and sounds killer!! Thers a little more to what ive done but for the most part thats all there is! I hope if you dont have the skills, call KDFab or Hawkperformance and stimulate their economy! But dont be afraid to try something as long as you have a plan B!(second muffler or dont go too far that you cant put it back together!)

How about a before and after dyno chart for those non-gutted mufflers.
Until I can see an improved power curve, and/or torque curve, with good or better A/F values, your muffler in no better than a stock "gutted" muffler.

I imagine after talking to Randy at Hawkperformance you are going to see some actual real world dyno numbers in the future.

He did an awesome job at more than reasonable price on mine. I love the sound and at the end of the day that is what I was going for...a non-gutted pipe that sounded good.
