Just like anything else, everyone will have their own take on wrapping pipes. Here's a .PDF for how to wrap your headers supplied by D.E.I. Maybe it'll help you out some. - DEI Header wrap instructions Another thing, I've seen successful wraps with headers on & off the bike. I dunked my roll of wrap in a bucket of water for a night. Started at the top of the rear pipe. First wrap I tied with safety wire then went back over to cover it up. tightly worked my way down once at the end cut and wrapped. repeated same step on the front but once at the bottom covered the wire from pipe one and continuted to end, wired it there. Had the pipe off the bike was really easy, could be a bitch on the bike. Just recently I added a second layer of wrap doing just the same procedure. 1. Buy wrap and 3 hose clamps 2. Remove wrap from package and place in a bucket of water. 2. Don rubber gloves and begin wrapping the rear header pipe as close as you can to the rear cylinder. Fold the end into a triangle and then overlap the wrap on itself to hold and complete a few wraps with your desired overlap (1/4 to 1/3 in). Then use 1 hose clamp on the wrap near the rear cylinder. 3. Complete wrapping rear pipe to the collector (junction of the pipes. 4. Start front pipe wrap as close to front cyliner as possible. Fold the end into a triangle and then overlap the wrap on itself to hold and complete a few wraps with your desired overlap (1/4 to 1/3 in). Then use 1 hose clamp on the wrap near the front cylinder. 5. Complete wrapping the front header pipe, overlapping the rear wrap at the collector and continuing all the way to the muffler clamp bracket. Fold the end into a triangle and place a hose clamp on the end of wrap. 6. Start bike and "bake" the wrap until it no longer steams. 7. Let pipes cool for desire time. 8. Use aluminum foil to cover the engine behind the wrap. Cover the bike with a sheet, use tape as needed. 9. Spray wrap with hi-temp paint in your color choice, 2-4 coats. 10. Start bike to cure the paint. 11. Go ride! Tips: 1. Wet the wrap! This eliminates fberglass dust and helps get a tighter wrap. 2. Wear gloves. Keeps your hands from direct contact with the fiberglass in the wrap. 3. By folding the ends into a triangle, this helps prevent fraying. 4. Spraying the wrap with hi-temp paint helps prevent fraying. 5. Over the course of time, the wrap will become brittle. Be carefull not to let anything rub against it. 6. Paint_Shaker. That is an awesome guide. I appreciate it. Can you paint it with any color or are some colors better than others? I was likely just going to use black wrap but may go with white wrap and paint it dark blue if any high temp paint will work. Thanks | ||

The most important thing in my opinion is to make sure you get it nice and soaked before you wrap it. Be aware, when you crank your bike for the first time after this it will steam up like crazy. It's nothing to be alarmed about. Does this after you wash it or if you get caught in the rain as well | ||
