Since I got the TT last year I hadn't really noticed if the throttle was heavy or not but having tried somebody elses recently I found it so, also a bit jerky at steady throttle openings around 2.5 to 3 thou, I reckoned it was only adjustment & had a fiddle, but on closer inspection found one of the cables has been partly flattened between the frame & fork leg, thus causing the drag. It looks like the cable doesn't sit in it's guide properly but I know not if it's down to me or a warranty issue. Anybody else had this? | ||

yep same problem here. it should be a warranty issue, but i don't know first hand. | ||

If it is flattened because it got smashed between the forks and the frame, It wont be a warranty item, unless you can prove the dealer did it during setup. You dealer might be kind hearted and fix it for free. | ||

My TT is an 07 model but 08 reg, The Dealer I bought it from is over 300 miles & a ferry crossing away in another country. My local dealer I wouldn't p*** on if he was on fire! I do know some really good dealers here in France but I'd have to do so many miles it'll be cheaper to get a cable sent from the US & do it myself. | ||

Mine's probably the same way, though I haven't noticed a problem. Ever since the guys at Stone Mountain fixed my throttle (some plastic bit was broken from the factory), my cables have been routed all funky and get caught between the frame and forks. I can't seem to get them to stay out of the way. ~SM | ||

Hi Grumpy – As an old fart I found the stock bar setup on my TT to low. I ended up with both 2” Rox and 1” Precision Engineering risers. To get both risers mounted I had to reroute the cables. In the stock setup, throttle cables along with the wiring harness are routed through a plastic wire harness guide bracket, (P/N Y1000-2AK). The bracket is bolted onto the front of the frame/fuel tank. Cables come out of the bracket, into the instrument cluster module, over the ignition key switch assembly and onto the throttle hand grip. To get both risers on, I removed the plastic guide bracket and routed the cables in back of the instrument cluster module. There is just enough space between the module and the triple clamp to allow this. To prevent the wire harness from chafing I put split convolute tubing over it. The setup worked well for about 6500 miles. No pinched or flattened throttle cables. This year I removed the 1” riser and installed Uly bars and cables. I routed the Uly cables the same way. | ||

Forgot to mention that the way the cables ride now, there is no chance of them getting pinched when moving the bars either left or right. | ||

Mine is the same way. Bad design. I fixed it by rerouting the cables behind the fly screen to get some more slack. Good luck. | ||

I'm actually ordering the cables for a uly this tuesday. I believe the standard lightning cables are a bit too short and this causes the cables to pull and bind around the steering head. I've had this issue since day one. So, with the uly cables being a bit longer I think they can be routed without being stressed and pulling "tight" like the stock cables do (which causes them to get pinched). | ||

The stock cables are plenty long enough if you reroute them. | ||

If you go with Uly throttle cables, there’s a length difference between 07 & 08. When I put on Uly bars I went with 07 cables. If I remember correctly 07’s are longer. Bars on 08 models turn a little more, but I think the cable difference has something to do with the 08 heated grips. | ||

do you know how much longer the uly cables are? I've tried rerouting the stock cables.... nothing seems to work for me. | ||

Unfortunately no. Didn’t realize you had an 08 TT when I wrote the post. With the heated grips, your cable arrangement is probably different. Everything I stated references an 07. Check your e-mail for other comments. | ||

Don’t remember exactly. Believe the grip housing is different between the heated and unheated Uly models. I purchased the Uly bar & cables from this Buell/Harley shop. Give them a call and speak with Dave. Dave is a Uly owner and should be able to answer your questions. They have another parts guy who owns a tuber and is also somewhat knowledgeable. Bill is another parts guy whose knowledge is pretty much limited to HD. Well, update time. Visited my local dealer, not unsurprisingly they didn't want to know & told me they weren't aware of it ever happening. As I said, no surprise, this dealer is also home to regional HOG, so work it out! Well then what to do? If I stay with this dealer to get a warranty claim (maybe) for a 30 buck part I'm going to lose my bike for at least 2 weeks, & if the claim is refused I'll end up paying full euro price + dealer labour rate. So not a realistic option. To go to another (better) dealer is going to cost more than the price of the part. Again a non economic option. So it's DIY time again. hooray. Took all the airbox gubbins off to get to the throttle body & disconnected the cables, both run nice & slick! huh!? Levered open the throttle butterfly with a finger, IT WOULDN'T RETURN ON IT'S OWN!! AHA, WD40 time, job's a good un. All nice and smooth & light now, had a bastard job getting that rubber trumpet thingy back on properly though, but it's all good now. I think if I have to replace the cables at any time I'll probably go with Uly ones though. Thanks all for your input. | ||

grumpy, i just posted about the uly cables.... see a few posts down. Uly cables vs. TT cables..... basically they're 1.25 to 1.75 inches longer so they can be routed better.... haven't installed them yet. both cables together cost me 35 and some change after tax. not bad. | ||
