Last week we got a decent day and I decided to take the bike to work. Two blocks from work some lady on her phone pulled her saturn in front of me and I put it down trying not to hit her. (and hit her anyway) It was a combination of her being dumb and me being a relatively new rider on the first ride of the year. (68 degrees in IL in February?)

Anyway, I'm fine. My helmet and jacket got a little rashed up, but that's why I wear them. I also ruined a pair of work pants and shoes. The only real damage is I kinda mangled my pinky finger on the right hand, I think it got between the handlebar and the road. Luckily I had Astars riding gloves on but I'll still lose the nail. But that's a small price to pay.

After I went down on the right side, the bike slid and hit her bumper. I was at fault and she insisted on filing a claim instead of just letting me fix her car with cash. I'm 23 and this my first wreck ever but I didn't want my insurance to go up. Well since she is claiming I might as well get mine fixed.
There was pretty minimal damage and I probably would have just replaced the blinkers and levers that got bent or snapped off and probably painted the plastics cause the airbox and tail are rashed. The part that really made me mad was my ceramic coated header got dented and really scratched up.

Now that they are fixing it and the harley dealership gave my insurance company a 2500 estimate to fix everything I'm thinking it's time to do some upgrades. First thing on the list is I'm considering switching from battle blue to thrust blue. Also considered switching to 1125 mirrors but I think I've decided against that.

Here's a list of things that need replaced, I'd love to hear ideas on how to better and/or cheaper!
Mirror
both brake levers
both right pegs
RF and LR blinkers
Airbox cover
Tailpiece
seat cowl
exhaust pipe
swing arm (not replacing this, very minor damage, it's a waste of $500)
Idler pulley assy
air box trim
and other miscellaneous things

Any ideas? Also if somebody has some extra thrust blue plastics for a firebolt they would be willing to sell that would be amazing. Thanks

i sure hope you got a police report. it might be real hard to fight the stereo types and uncover the truth.

upgrade to some bicycle bar end mirrors. you'll be regretful if you tip it over and break an expensive one. i've lost too much money in broken bar end mirrors. CAT-EYE's from here on out

now would be a good time to upgrade the belt/pulley system.

blinkers are pretty much universal. try your local cyclegear.

my exhaust header has been dented since the day i got it. i think it gives the bike character.... it's got a lot of that.

Drummer, wrap the pipes, shorty levers, i would also look into the belt/pully upgrade. Keep the old plastics, you can always spray paint them if you feel like it later.

You need to straighten out that insurance sh*t before you do anything. Once you get them to realize that the dumb invaded your space while on the phone wich is probably illegal and caused the accident you should threaten to sue her for pain and suffering and maybe a bit of PTSD. I wouldn't sue her as I don't believe in it but I sure would make my own letterhead and send her a letter informing her what is going to happen. Weren't you just telling us about how you got a really lucrative gig modeling pinky rings ? I can't even put a number on the amount of projected lost wages you will suffer.

I appreciate the help and ideas, but I don't believe in suing people for stupid stuff. Plus I was probably 50% at fault for this. Talking on the phone while driving isn't illegal here yet, just stupid.

Don't take any blame for this!!!! I nearly lost my right leg just below the knee when a driver pulled out of a parking lot and whacked my Sporty. A cop actually came into the emergency ward after they'd pumped me full of morphine and tried to get me to sign what amounted to an admission of total guilt. Fortunately, I was still pissed off enough to know that I hadn't done a damn thing wrong, and told him to go **** himself, and the attending physician suggested that he should take my advice. The cop told me that I was just making things harder for my case, and left. Well, turned out that the cop was related to the woman that ran into me, and when my lawyer caught wind of what had happened, I had a couple of high ranking cops in my hospital room a few days later, doing flips and twists in order to keep the poop from hitting the prop. By then, they'd seen the sworn deposition from my doctor regarding what had happened in the emergency ward, and were more than willing to make sure that the matter would be taken care of. I don't believe in frivolous lawsuits, either, which made those cops happy, and I really have little use for our local newspaper, which made them even happier. When things went to court, it was over in minutes; the cops had a couple of accident investigators come in and testify that I was completely blameless in the accident. The insurance company paid out the next day. The cop who tried to help out his auntie, well he found work elsewhere.........
