made in the USA, at least mine was when I got it two years ago. Only problem is the ladies keep staring at the shiny buckle when I talk to them instead of looking me in the eye!

I gotta Nautica backpack, looks like a framed hiking pack without the frame. Waist buckle and chest buckles as well, looks good, not wind resistant however! The dual buckles really keep it tight to your body and won't shift around when leaning.

I use a Timbuktu bicycling type messenger bag. I ride with it daily, back and forth to work and whatnot. The Chrome's less cool sibling. Waterproof, available in several different sizes, colors, and configurations. How's that for a sales pitch?
Seriously I live and die by this thing.

I've been using a messenger bag I got from aerostitch ~5 years ago and it still looks
practically new. It has a big, really high quality reflective stripe on it which is a
big bonus when using it on the bike.

They are made of really high quality waterproof canvas (same stuff as the aerostitch
suits) with industrial velcro and strap closures. It comes with an interior pocket,
with an optional organizer available. The shoulder strap is also nice and wide.

I think just about any backpack with a chest and waist strap will do. I got a $40 Jansport that works great.

I got one of the Buell sling bags that were a promotional item last year ... the sling doesn't restrict your arms/shoulders like a traditional backpack, plus it has a handy cell phone pocket at the top of the strap just under your chin - so using the headphones/mp3 player on my cell doesn't leave a bunch of cord hanging over your shoulder. There's one on fleabay (item #220364640370) ...

I ride with my Joe Rocket meteor jacket a lot.
(I think its a meteor?)
Its pretty big, would be better if you were a bit taller. Has a nice pocket to stuff a helmet in and enough places to store everything you need.

uhg.. I Hated the buell sling bag.. seems like I couldnt get it high enough not to set on the seat. When I would take corners it would shift.

Personally any sling bag like that I would avoid. Jansport type bags are good and check out skateboard back packs, they tend to be built tough and have decent shoulder straps.

I am rocking a tragus at the moment since I have to carry a laptop and netbook. If it was waterproof it would be a 10 in my book.

Like mentioned about just make sure it has a waiste strap.

If you want to be seen and stay safe, take a look at one of these.

The Icon squad II is now offered in black. Straps on like a vest and is very secure while riding.

McDonald's Olympic one works for me. Used it across town and across the border (1000 mile weekend).

If I needed to carry more stuff, I'd rethink my vehicle choice.

I use this one, got it from REI:

http://www.rei.com/pwr/product-reviews/Camping-Hik ing/Daypacks-Hydration-Packs-and-Waistpacks/Daypac ks/JanSport/p/750369-JanSport-Agave-Trail-Pack.htm l

Very functional, it has 3 large sections, and expands to a very large capacity. Comfortable also, it has padding and channels for airflow between the pack and your back. It was the largest standard backpack I could find, and you can tighten the straps to contract it.

I was going to sew reflective material on it, but never got around to it.

I just ordered this one: https://www.motonekoparts.com/Axio-Swift-Hardpack- Orange-p-18057.html
I will spray-paint it flat black, just like I did the Firebolt and will put a reflective sticker on it. Cheap, safe and big enough for my HP Dv7 laptop. Good enough ; )

I rock one of these:

No complaints so far. As you mentioned, it's not too small, not too big.

I know this isn't a backpack but I hate wearing something of any wait on my back. The Ventura rack system mounts to your rear rear sets mounts and it comes off in minutes. I literally won't feel a thing. Al sell's them at American Sportbike

I have the Icon squad II and like it alot. It is big enough, expandable and has a lined helmet storage compartment at the bottom that you can zip down.

Looking at Tattoo's post got me thinking.

What are you thinking of carrying?

I have the above back pack when I carry an attache case (laptop) and lunch box to work.

I used the same back pack for travel clothes and toilet kit on a weekend tour.

Around town I use the Space pak tail bag for shoes, books and snack.

+1 on the Ventura rack. I usually bungie my backpack flat down onto the rack for that 'riding free' feeling if I'm carrying anything substantial in it.
