I was riding all day today and it was a good day of riding and typical Florida it decided it wanted to rain just enough to make things slick. Well I was on route 436 heading home after riding for about 8 hours and so jackass decided they were going to stop right in front of me. There is now ryhme or reason that I can figure cause there wasn't a tunring lane and nothing going on except for an SUV in front of them. So I don't know who decided to stop but I hit the brakes and the bike just dropped. The bike has minor damage turn signal, shift lever, and bar end messed up and a little scuff on the tail section. The worst part is going to be the aluminum front bracket holding the fairing and dash cluster it was cracked as well. Bike starts and runs but has a slight miss in it at idle. I wasn't hurt much just a few scrapes and a goose egg on my thigh and my left shoulder is hurt pretty good as well. Gotta be thankful though cause it could have been a lot worse than it was being a major road in Orlando.

Post up exactly what parts were damaged, we might be able to located them for you (pay if forward deal).

Good to hear your ok. I'm over in Lakeland...I know what you mean about the major roads in Orlando.

You both will heal up nicely.

Glad to hear you are ok. That's by far the most important thing! Bikes can be fixed.

I was working for a company in Orlando and commuting from the Melbourne area for a while. I am quite familiar with Rt 50 and some of 417 and 408. It is dangerous down here.

I have witnessed things I have never seen elsewhere, after 20+ years of traveling the country on a regular basis.

After further inspecting I'm pretty sure I can get my bike back on the road with just the left front turn signal and the shift lever. The front bracket that holds the fairing I think can wait for right now.

My son crashed his Firebolt last summer. One of the legs of the aluminum fairing support bracket was completely broken off. I glued it back together with epoxy, ground the edges, filled the cracks with bondo, then sanded and painted the whole bracket with rattle can aluminum paint. It came out absolutely perfect. I believe a new one is about $150

Cable,
Glad to hear you are ok. 436 sucks. People are always doing stupid stuff on this road and the closer you get to OIA, the more likely you are dealing with people who have no idea where they are going (the touristos). B.

OH yeah I know what you mean about the closer you get to OIA. I live about 5 or 6 minutes from the airport so I deal with it everyday. Its even bad when I leave for school in the morning because unfortunate 528 is the fastest way to get to OBT. I took my bike apart today, so I will probably price things this week sometime.

Hey Cable, By any chance did you buy your Blk/Red '08 last summer? I also bought mine at Seminole last June :-) They had 2 on the floor at the time. It was the CityX I was after and went all over looking for one.Unfortunately the HD folks in my neck of the woods had little to no choices and I used to work in Orlando, so I ended up at Seminole.

Yes as a matter of fact I did, I bought it last June from Seminole. I must say though that I'm not too thrilled with service department up there. I was actually looking at getting the white and blue but they didn't have any instock and said it would have been about $1500 extra to get one shipped in. Now I'm glad that I didn't get it cause I'm really loving the red and black, especially since I stripping all the decals. Makes it look kind of mean!!

Central Floridians should consider using The Ridge HD/Buell for Buell service. They are a little out of the way (Lake Wales) but worth the trip. This store is owned by the same person who owns Lakeland HD/Buell. FWIW he rides a Uly and routinely rides with the Sat. ride out of Lakeland.

That's funny Cable. We probably missed each other by days maybe even hours.

I love the arctic white but I don't think I can handle the lean over riding position much longer. I haven't had any problems with their service but they weren't any help with the MPG issue and the excuse the service tech gave me had me laughing too hard to argue. It was fuzzy math to say the least.
I also had similar encounters with the 'over MSRP' story because I was looking for a CityX and there were none to be found at the time. I was in the market for a second bike, like yourself, I too own an HD (NightTrain) and thought the CityX would be a perfect choice and the MPG would make the most of my previous commute.
The Firebolt is a stunning bike to look at and handles better than I can ride so far. I might go with the LSL package when I get a few bucks together.

Good Luck with the repairs. Maybe we will run into each other some time.

The alloy bracket that holds the front of the Firebolt together can easily be repaired from beneath with coathanger/bar stock bent to the inside contours and JB Weld. Use like concrete with rebar. Nobody but you (and all of us who read this) will ever know.
Don't ask me how I know. D'oh.

That magnesium does tend to be a little brittle (but it is oh so light!).

At the track you'll see epoxy, and sheet metal with pop rivet repairs to them.

Like the rest of the bike it just goes on and on with easy repairs.

Hey Frank,
I would love to go, where is Barnies in Orlando and what time?
Got the monthly VFW meeting tonight, but next Wednesday night....................It has been a long time, the ride out of Orlando Harley-Davidson a couple of years ago, I think. I must go, there isn't any Buell anything going on here in Daytona.

Al,

Check out the Orlando section in STORMFRONTS. We usually have 6 or so folks show up. The Barnies is in Baldwin Park which is ~5 miles east of I4 off of Colonial Drive (SR50).
