Is anyone using a Latus muffler on their XB. I was looking at their product and it sure does look good. Stainless steel construction, painted black with dual chrome tips. Claims to give 7hp boost at 3000rpm and 5hp at top end? Anyone heard one?

I had one on mine. I thought it was too loud above 4000 rpm. Others love it. It is very well constructed and the fairing mount is just right. It is made from a stainless edelbrock car muffler.

One other question comes to mind- Do you have the ability to use a jack on the Latus? And while I am typing maybe somebody can put other issues to rest.

Here lately all the debates are between the D&D and the Drummer. So what about the compairision between the D&D and the Latus. If I am correct they seem to be a more compairable slip on, performance wise any way.

I guess I'm wondering why you hear so much more about the D&D, when the Latus is made of stainless has dual chrome tips and is cheaper than the D&D. The D&D is made of carbon steel, correct?

So whats up with the Latus?
Dave I know you have had a Latus on your bike, and I know you sell D&D's also. Maybe you could shed some light on the subject. Especially since my XB9S customisation piggy bank is reaching $2000. Come late spring when it gets to about $3500 that piggy is gettin its ass busted open. But til then I'm doin all the research I can.

Maybe you could also tell me about the Nallin 1050cc kit vs. the 1200cc kit.

Thanx Jason

I think the Latus is made up of two car mufflers, the Drummer is made of a stock XB muffler revamped, and the D&D is made by D&D.
As far as the difference between performance, IMHO, a 2 into 1 is the best design (I learned this late in the game), and dual exhaust looks the coolest, which one you want is up to you...

The Latus is made from a single, Eldelbrock car muffler.
On the XB we tested it had 76 HP on our "unhappy" dyno.
The sound is a little louder than the Buell can, about the same as a Drummer, not as loud as a D+D.
You can jack on a Latus, I have done it.
They(latus) claim it will run with the stock ECM but I had a Race ECM on mine. I don't know if that made any difference or not.
On my latus(I don't know if they have fixed this or not so don't be a flaming me if they have) the paint just below where it connects to the collector burnt off in about 10 minutes, not a big deal as the chin fairing hides it pretty well.
I ran the latus all last summer, did lots of wheelies, track days and other general abuse and it held up fine. The chin spoiler bolts right to it nicely.
Hopefully they have solved their production schedule problems and you can actually get one now. I had several on order for months(3 months I think it was) and they never did show up. I only bought 2 of the 7 I needed. Two days after I canceled my order, imagine this, they had my other ones ready to ship! I told them NO THANKS!
I think it's a good enough pipe but i couldn't deal with the delays and being told every week for 3 months that it would be "next week".

The D+Ds that I have sold have held up great, sound great, look great, run great(depending on where you want your power),you can jack on them and are a quality product.

The Drummer is a GREAT idea, I have not heard of ANY breaking, you can jack on them, if you exchange your stocker they are the lowest priced, run great and Bubba is an all around good guy to do business with. Hard to beat that combo?(I also have Drummers in stock)

The difference between the 2 kits from Nallin is, well, how much doe you want to spend?
Someday(soon I hope)I will have some dyno numbers off my 1050 kitted 9 that I'm hoping will be "not too far off" what Nallins are getting with the 12 kit without having to buy the wheels and rods or splitting the cases, we will see. We are doing 2 different bikes, a little different to see which setup is best and will have this available in kit form by spring.
I think that Aaron and the boys at Nallins do a great job, I know that Shazam loves his 12 kitted XB9R.

Your choice of muffler should match the other work you plan on doing.

Do not rule out the Force pipe either, if you like LOUD as I do you'll love it. I am confident that Johnny at Force WILL get the issues of the breakage taken care of and these pipes do build good power(depending on where you want your power)

Oh, yes, lots of choices for the XB available.
Life is good!

Man you should write advertising your so eloquent.Much more so than me. That was a good description of everything.
the newest thing I have to add to this is this. Tilley's race xb which is 1340cc and all that good stuff. has been tested with the drummer on it on the dyno. we just did this a couple weeks ago and I did not find out till last week. but with that big of displacement and such. The drummer held its own with the race pipes we've been running on it. What I mean by that is this. It didn't lose anything comparative to what we had been using.
so the drummer can handle a very large displacement engine. which once again kevin has amazed me with his knowledge. he told me when we were putiing it together and testing it on the nine that it would but I'll be honest. I didn't believe him. Now I do.

sorry to jump in on the thread

Thanx Dave,

I appreciate all the info. So you guys are going to be selling a 1050cc kit, did I understand that correctly? And how difficult would a kit like that be to install in my garrage. Keep in mind I am not a mechanic but am handy, and pretty well mechanically inclined.

One more thing- Any idea when force is going to get the kinks worked out? Just curious.

Thanx alot.....Jason

I don't think "handy" will do it, no offense intended.
You would need some special tools not in your normal Sears tool kit.
Do you have any friends that are familiar with engine building to help out?
If not, i think you would be better off in the long run to have us do the work for you.

Hey Dave, no offense taken. There are a couple of shops around here that could do it. But if you could, give me a ball park figure on what it would run me to take my stock 9S to a kitted 1050 with the D&D.

I'm going to be working in Montana for 3 months starting around March, I could possibly drop it off to you guys on my way up there. I live in Houston by the way.

I do not have the cost numbers yet as I haven't even completed the research on what we are going to do.
I am waiting for the numbers from the 2 bikes before we go any further.
My goal is to come up with a performance package that is,
A. A lot of bang for the buck
B. reliable
c. repeatable

Of course nothing will be set in stone, if one customer wants to do something a little different we can do that too.

I guess just keep everyone posted. My e-mail address is also on my profile. I'll be away from my computer for about a month, leaving for LA tommorow.

I sure do miss this web site when I'm out of town. I'm going to have to look into a wireless provider.

Jason, Nallin sells the 1050 kits in 3 different stages depending on what you are looking for.

Stage 1 is $939
Stage 2 is $2066
Stage 3 is $2316

Heres the link so you can see what you get http://www.nallinracing.com/ekitbuellxb9r.shtml

And remember thats just parts, no labor included.

I emailed Latus HD and they said their muffler doesn`t fit the 12 models. They didn`t say why though.

Dana, since the 9 & the 12 have different sized header pipes, is the collector also a different size? I dont know, just asking. If so, then thats why it wouldnt work.

Dana, has to be a different sized collector. Buell lists 2 different race pipes. 1 for the 9's & another for the 12's.

Race pipes????You mean muffler's right??Cause the kit doesn't come with a new header.

Yes muffler, I think everyone here refers to it as a race pipe tho for some damn reason.

Anyways Buell lists 2 separate part numbers. The 12 must have a slightly bigger collector than the 9 does.

Nope, same size, the difference is the coating on the 12 muffler. Just like you can put a Drummer on either a 9 or a 12 and it dosnt matter what bike it came off originally.
