I know we've lowered a couple of XB's with factory Scg forks and shock/spring assemblies. I also know there's a year or two where you can't just swap, you have to change trees. I just can't remember which years.

Anyhoo - wifey is interested in an '06 Ss but we'd have to lower it. Anyone know fork tube diameters for it, and for an Scg, off the top of their heads? Would love to be able to do it without changing trees....

03-04 had 41mm forks. 05 and up has 43mm forks.

So if I put '06 Scg forks on the 06 Ss, I should be OK? I don't have an 06 cg to measure...but I can measure the Ss if someone can post the size of a cg for me... Parts lookup shows different trees between the models, but I suspect that may just be color based on which model. Again, with no parts on hand to measure....

All cg's have the 41mm forks even the 09's

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I do not believe that you can do the suspension swap between an Ss and a Cg. I believe they have different sized subframes so geometry will be incorrect.

+1 Jfruechtel, thats what I thought also. only the s and scg are interchangeable?

I switched the forks and the spring on my wife's cityx and my cg to get her as comfortable as possible and she still is wanting to sell the bike. You think anyone would be interested in a short cityx? I know part of the appeal for them is their height.

The biggest problem you will encounter is fitting the Scg rear shock. The S and Scg share the short swingarm frame design and the SS, TT, and X models have a different frame designed to work with the longer swingarm. The shock mounts are in different locations on the frame and use much different shock lengths.

Swapping springs between different length rear shocks is not a good idea. The spring length vs. the shock stroke needs to work together. If you put the Scg yellow spring on a standard S rear shock, the shock will extend far enough to allow the spring keepers to fall out. That could be really bad!!!!!

Ahhh, I hadn't thought about the swingarm differences. Doh. What we'd done in the past was lower a Firebolt with CG stuff, and I think we did an SX. Grrrr....wife drives a Hemi, don't know if I can talk her into a 9, LOL. (redhead pride and all that...)

It will cost more, but you can get variable length rear shocks and achieve your goal
that way, by giving the standard length for the ss as the maximum length. These are
more commonly known as "ride height adjustable shocks. Elka, Penske, Ohlins, etc.
make them. Just find one that meets your price point and away you go.

A pair of bathroom scales and a couple of friends can make it easy to get it dialed in
with proper weight bias front:rear and you're in business.
